Yusei summoning his Shooting Quasar Dragon against Z-one

1 Tuner Synchro Monster + 2 or more non-Tuner Synchro Monsters Must be Synchro Summoned, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. This card's maximum number of attacks per Battle Phase equals the number of non-Tuner monsters used as its Synchro Material. Once per turn, during either player's turn, when a card or effect is activated: You can negate the activation, and if you do, destroy it. When this card leaves the field: You can Special Summon 1 "Shooting Star Dragon" from your Extra Deck.

Anime Effect[]

1 Tuner Synchro Monster2 or more non-Tuner Synchro Monsters

This card can attack as many times as the number of Synchro Monsters used as Material. When this card attacks, you can negate the activation and effect of 1 card effect on the field that negates until the end of the Battle Phase. In addition, negate any effect damage. This card is unaffected by the monster effects of your opponent's monsters. When this card is removed from the field, destroy all monsters on the field and Special Summon 1 "Shooting Star Dragon" from your Extra Deck. This Special Summon is treated as a Synchro Summon.

Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's[]

  • This card appears in the "Future Colors" ending theme as a silhouette.
  • When this card attacks in the anime, it creates an image of the monsters used for its Synchro Summon to perform the attack.
  • When summoning "Shooting Quasar Dragon", Yusei chants in Japanese, "Clustering stars become one, as new bonds will enlighten the future! Become the path its light shines upon! Limit Over Accel Synchro! Light of Evolution! Shooting Quasar Dragon!" ("集いし星が一つになる時、新たな絆が未来を照らす。光さす道となれ!リミットオーバーアクセルシンクロ!進化の光、シューティング・クェーサー・ドラゴン!")
  • In the Japanese anime, while Yusei has never mentioned the attack name of "Shooting Quasar Dragon",Crow refers to it as The Creation Burst.
    • In Tag Force 6, Yusei does mention the attack name himself when declaring an attack with Shooting Quasar Dragon.
  • In episode 150, Yusei Fudo uses this card during his Turbo Duel against Z-One. He Limit Over Accel Synchro Summons this card by tuning "Ancient Fairy Dragon", "Black Rose Dragon", "Black-Winged Dragon", and "Red Dragon Archfiend" (who were all Level 1 due to them being affected by the third effect of "Life Stream Dragon") with "Life Stream Dragon". In the next episode, Yusei explains to Z-one that this card negates the effects of monsters that prevent themselves from being destroyed in battle. This card then attacks and destroys "Michion, the Timelord". The effect of "Michion" activates, but this card's effect negates that effect. This card then attacks and destroys "Hailon, the Timelord". The effect of "Hailon" activates, but this card nullifies the effect damage Yusei would take. This card then attacks and destroys "Raphion, the Timelord". The effect of "Raphion" activates, but this card is unaffected by the effect of "Raphion" due to its own effect and the damage that Yusei would take is nullified. This card then attacks and destroys "Gabrion, the Timelord". The effect of "Gabrion" activates, but this card is unaffected by the effect of "Gabrion" due to its own effect. This card then attacks "Sandaion, the Timelord". The effect of "Sandaion" activates, but this card's effect nullifies the effect damage Yusei would have taken. Both monsters are then destroyed in a Double KO. The last effect of this card then activates, allowing Yusei to Synchro Summon "Shooting Star Dragon".

Scripted Duels[]

  • In the non-canon duel YCS Providence 2012 Special: Yusei vs. Akiza, Yusei summons this card with "Formula Synchron", "Junk Destroyer" with its Level modified by "Star Siphon", and "Stardust Dragon" with its Level modified by "Give and Take" as Synchro Material. The same turn, "Shooting Quasar Dragon" attacks and destroys Akiza's "Tuningware". This card then attacks Akiza's "Black Rose Dragon", resulting in a Double KO. This card's effect then Special Summoned "Shooting Star Dragon".

Trivia[]

  • This monster appears in the artwork of "Limit Overdrive".
  • In the anime, in the alternate future Yusei developed Delta Accel Synchro by Summoning "Cosmic Blazar Dragon". This, however, was changed due to Z-one's appearance in the current timeline.
  • In episode 150 of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, when this monster is Summoned and descends from above the sky, it resembles what a real quasar looks like: a giant vortex of gas with a jet of light emitting from its middle.
  • Since a quasar is a mass of extremely fast spinning matter around supermassive black holes, this card's name might be referring to the spinning Ener-D that enables Synchro Summons and the fact that it is Summoned by a highly-evolved version of the Synchro Summon.
  • The bond of Team 5D's is also shown in this card's artwork, with 6 "Synchro Rings" behind it, each colored differently.
    • There are six Synchro rings behind it all colored differently to represent the bonds used to create the dragon. From the ring furthest in the back to the one in the front, they are "Black-Winged Dragon" (black), "Red Dragon Archfiend" (maroon), "Black Rose Dragon" (red), "Ancient Fairy Dragon" (green), "Life Stream Dragon" (yellow) and "Stardust Dragon" (white), respectively.
  • This card's Synchro requirements (1 Tuner Synchro Monster + 2 or more non-Tuner Synchro Monsters), Level, ATK and DEF is the same as "T.G. Halberd Cannon".
  • The ATK and DEF of this card can be found by adding 700 ATK to the ATK of "Shooting Star Dragon", similar to "T.G. Blade Blaster" and "T.G. Halberd Cannon", as this card and "Halberd Cannon" are both evolved Accel Synchro Monsters.
  • This card's OCG effect is similar to (if not reminiscent of) the effect from "Stardust Dragon/Assault Mode". "Shooting Quasar Dragon" can negate any card effect and Special Summon "Shooting Star Dragon" from the Extra Deck when it leaves the field, much like how "Stardust Dragon/Assault Mode" can negate any card effect and Special Summons "Stardust Dragon" when it's destroyed and sent to the Graveyard.
  • This monster's body resembles the "Timelords", the monsters that this card came about to counter in the anime.

Synchro Summoning[]

  • Yusei-themed Decks can Summon this card using many different combinations, such as 2 "Junk Warriors" or 2 "Jet Warriors" and 1 "Formula Synchron" or "Junk Gardna", "Turbo Warrior" or "Drill Warrior" with "Armory Arm" and "Formula Synchron". Cards such as "Unknown Synchron" and "Salvage Warrior" also helps this type of Deck to Summon this card quickly.

    2. Use "Handmaiden's" effect to send a second copy of "Handmaiden" from your Graveyard, and then use the effect of the second copy of "Handmaiden" to send a third copy.
    3. Use the effect of your third copy of "Handmaiden" to send a second copy of "Cannoneer" from your Deck to your Graveyard.
    4. Activate "Rekindling" and Special Summon the 5 "Laval" monsters you just sent to the Graveyard, then Synchro Summon 2 Level 5 Synchro Monsters such as "T.G. Hyper Librarian" and "Laval Dual Slasher" with two copies of "Cannoneer" and "Handmaiden" each.
    5. Activate "Searing Fire Wall" and banish as many of the "Laval" monsters in your Graveyard as you desire to Special Summon "Laval Tokens".

    7. Synchro Summon this card by tuning Formula Synchron with your 2 Level 5 Synchro Monsters.
      • If you don't have "Searing Fire Wall", you can use "Reinforcement of the Army" to search "Boost Warrior" and use it instead of the Token (it can even be summoned with "Rekindling").
  • If your opponent controls a monster(s) and you control no monsters, you can Synchro Summon this card in one turn if your have "Unknown Synchron", "Boost Warrior", "Machine Duplication", and "Reborn Tengu" in your hand.
    1. Special Summon "Unknown Synchron" by its own effect. Activate "Machine Duplication" to Special Summon 2 more from your Deck.
    2. Normal Summon "Reborn Tengu" and tune it with your first copy of "Unknown Synchron" to Synchro Summon "T.G. Hyper Librarian". Special Summon another copy of "Reborn Tengu" from your Deck when the first copy leaves the field.
    3. Tune your second copy of "Unknown Synchron" with your second copy of "Reborn Tengu" to Synchro Summon a Level 5 Synchro Monster. As a Synchro Monster was Synchro Summoned, draw 1 card via the effect of "Hyper Librarian".
    4. Special Summon "Boost Warrior" by its own effect and tune it with your third copy of "Unknown Synchron" to Synchro Summon "Formula Synchron", then draw a card with it effect. Draw 1 card with the effect of "Hyper Librarian".
    5. Finally, tune "Formula Synchron", "Hyper Librarian", and the Level 5 Synchro Monster to Synchro Summon this card.
  • In a Plant Deck, this card can easily be Summoned in one turn if you have "Lonefire Blossom" and any level 3 EARTH monster you can special summon in your hand (e.g. Junk Forward/Emergency Teleportinto Psychic Commander/Instant Fusion into Fusionist).
    1. Special Summon the aforementioned level 3 EARTH monster.
    2. Normal Summon "Lonefire Blossom" and Tribute it to Special Summon "Dandylion" from your Deck.
    3. Overlay Dandylion and the Level 3 EARTH Monster to make "Meliae of the Trees".
    4. Deatch Dandylion from "Meliae" to revive the tributed "Lonefire" from your grave in defense position. "Dandylion" summons two Fluff Tokens.
    5. Use the revived Lonefire's effect to tribute "Meliae" to summon a 2nd Lonefire from your deck.
    6. Use the effect of the second copy of "Lonefire Blossom" and Tribute it to Special Summon "Spore" from your deck.
    7. Tune "Spore" with the first "Fluff Token" to Synchro Summon "Formula Synchron" and draw 1 card.
    8. Revive "Spore" by banishing the Lonefire you tributed in step 6, making "Spore" level 4.
    9. Tune the level 4 "Spore" with your other Lonefire Blossom to synchro summon "Power Tool Dragon".
    10. Use the effect of "Power Tool Dragon" to reveal 3 "D.D.R - Different Dimension Reincarnation" from your deck, and add one of them to your hand.
    11. Activate "Different Dimension Reincarnation", discarding the card you drew from "Formula Synchron" in step 7 to revive the "Lonefire Blossom" you banished to revive Spore in step 8.
    12. Tribute the revived "Lonefire" to special summon a Level 2 Plant-Type Tuner monster (such as "Nettles" or "Naturia Cosmobeet") from your Deck.
    13. Tune "Nettles" or "Naturia Cosmobeet" with your second "Fluff Token" to synchro summon a level 3 Synchro Monster (such as "Mist Bird Clausolas").
    14. Finally, Tune "Formula Synchron" with "Mist Bird Clausolas" and "Power Tool Dragon" to synchro summon this card.
  • You can also summon this card if you have "Glow-Up Bulb", "Level Eater", and "Quickdraw Synchron" in your hand, and "Jet Synchron" in your Graveyard.
    1. Special Summon "Quickdraw Synchron" by sending "Level Eater" to the Graveyard. Then Normal Summon "Glow-Up Bulb".
    2. Special Summon "Level Eater" through its effect by reducing "Quickdraw Synchron's" level by 1. With "Quickdraw Synchron" at Level 4, you can tune it with "Level Eater" to Synchro Summon "Jet Warrior".
    3. Special Summon "Level Eater" again by reducing "Jet Warrior's" level by 1. Tune "Glow-Up Bulb" with the Level 4 "Jet Warrior" to Synchro Summon "Accel Synchron".
    4. After "Accel Synchron" is summoned, Special Summon "Glow-Up Bulb" through his effect. (A card is sent from the top of the deck to Graveyard from "Glow-Up Bulb's" effect).
    5. Synchro Summon "Formula Synchron" using "Glow-Up Bulb" and "Level Eater".
    6. Use "Jet Synchron's" effect to Special Summon itself; next, Tribute it to Special Summon "Jet Warrior" by its own effect.
    7. Special Summon "Level Eater" by reducing "Jet Warrior's" level by 1.
    8. Tune "Accel Synchron" (Level 5) with "Level Eater" to Synchro Summon any Level 6 Synchro Monster.
    9. Synchro Summon "Shooting Quasar Dragon" using "Formula Synchron", the Level 4 "Jet Warrior", and your Level 6 Synchro Monster.
  • You can Synchro Summon this card in a "Yang Zing" deck if you control no monsters and have "Jiaotu, Darkness of the Yang Zing", 2 other "Yang Zing" cards, and 1 Spell or Trap Card in your hand, and your opponent has at least 1 card on their side of the field.
    1. Normal Summon "Jiaotu" and use its effect to send the 2 "Yang Zing" cards in your hand to your Graveyard, then Special Summon "Bixi, Water of the Yang Zing" and "Taotie, Shadow of the Yang Zing" from your Deck.
    2. Tune "Jiaotu" with "Taotie" to Synchro Summon "Yazi, Evil of the Yang Zing", and use its effect to destroy itself and your opponent's card. Since it was destroyed by a card effect and sent to your Graveyard, use the effect of "Yazi" to Special Summon "Parental Seahorse".
    3. Use "Parental Seahorse's" effect three times to reduce its Level to 4 and Special Summon 3 "Seahorse Tokens".
    4. Tune "Parental Seahorse" with a "Seahorse Token" to Synchro Summon "Accel Synchron". Use "Accel Synchron's" effect to send "Jet Synchron" from your Deck to your Graveyard, and increase "Accel Synchron's" Level by 1.
    5. Tune "Accel Synchron" with "Bixi" to Synchro Summon "Baxia, Brightness of the Yang Zing". If your opponent has at least 1 other card on their side of the field, you can use "Baxia's" effect to target it and shuffle it into the Deck.
    6. Set your Spell or Trap Card and use "Baxia's" effect to target both it and the "Jet Synchron" in your Graveyard. Destroy your Spell or Trap Card and Special Summon "Jet Synchron".
    7. Tune "Jet Synchron" with your second "Seahorse Token" to Synchro Summon "Formula Synchron", and draw a card with its effect.
    8. Send 1 card from your hand to your Graveyard to Special Summon "Jet Synchron" from your Graveyard.

    10. Tune "Formula Synchron" with "Baxia" and "Recipro Dragonfly" to Synchro Summon "Shooting Quasar Dragon.
  • After Synchro Summoning this card, use "Soul Charge" to Special Summon all of its Synchro Materials and Synchro Summon a second copy of this card.

General Tips[]

  • Use this card with "Interdimensional Matter Transporter", "Wattpheasant" or "Dimensionhole" in order to Summon a free "Shooting Star Dragon".
  • If you activate "Shadow Impulse" when this card is destroyed by battle or card effect, you can Special Summon a "Red Nova Dragon" or "Hot Red Dragon Archfiend King Calamity" in addition to the "Shooting Star Dragon" you get from the final effect of this card.
  • In a "Nekroz" Deck, use the effect of "Nekroz Kaleidoscope" to send this card from your Extra Deck to your Graveyard and Ritual Summon 2 copies of "Nekroz of Brionac". Overlay them to Xyz Summon"Inzektor Exa-Beetle", and use its effect to equip this card in your Graveyard to it. Not only will "Exa-Beetle have 3000 ATK and DEF, but when this card leaves the field, you can Special Summon "Shooting Star Dragon" from your Extra Deck. You can even send this card to the Graveyard yourself with the effect of "Exa-Beetle".

Countering[]

  • "Lava Golem", "Volcanic Queen", "Santa Claws", and any "Kaiju" monster are very good against this card. Not only will they get around its negation effect, they will also prevent it from Summoning "Shooting Star Dragon" by making it miss the timing.
  • "Lose 1 Turn" can potentially prevent this card from being Summoned, as it needs many monsters to be Special Summoned beforehand and those monsters may rely on activating their effects at some point. Also, even if this card is Synchro Summoned, you can get rid of it by using any removal card, like "Bottomless Trap Hole", "Compulsory Evacuation Device", etc.; since "Lose 1 Turn" will be continuously negating this card's effects during the turn it is Summoned, it will not be able to negate any of those cards.
  • You can use "Number 101: Silent Honor ARK" or "Cyber Dragon Infinity" to get rid of this card without have to face "Shooting Star Dragon"; if your opponent tries to negate its effect, you can chain "Fiendish Chain", "Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit", or "Breakthrough Skill".
    • "Number C101: Silent Honor DARK" is even more effective; even if this card negates its effect and destroys it, it will Special Summon itself and then you will be able to activate its effect again.
  • "Night Dragolich" can single-handedly get rid of this card. Since the effects of "Night Dragolich" are Continuous, they won't be negated by "Shooting Quasar Dragon's" effect; coupled with the loss of its DEF, "Night Dragolich" will be able to destroy it by battle, as well as the "Shooting Star Dragon" Special Summoned afterwards.
  • "Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman" will prevent this card from activating either of its effects.

Traditional Format[]

  • If you have "Superancient Deepsea King Coelacanth", "Mausoleum of the Emperor" (or Terraforming to search Mausoleum of the Emperor) and 2 other cards in your hand:
    1. Activate "Mausoleum" and use it to normal summon Coelacanth by paying 2000 life points.
    2. Then, use the effect of "Coelacanth", discarding 1 card to special summon "Fishborg Blaster" and 3 other level 1 Fish-Type Monsters from your deck.
    3. Tune Fishborg with one of the level 1 fish monsters to Synchro summon "Formula Synchron" and draw 1 card.
    4. Discard the drawn card from "Formula Synchron" to revive "Fishborg" and tune it with another of the level 1 monsters to make "T.G. Recipro Dragonfly".
    5. Discard your last card to revive "Fishborg" again, and tune it with Coelacanth to synchro summon any level 8 synchro monster.
    6. Finally, tune the level 8 synchro monster with Formula Synchron and T.G. Recipro Dragonfly to synchro summon this card.
      • Alternatively, you can use "Star Blast" in place of "Mausoleum of the Emperor" to reduce the level of "Coelacanth" to level 4 and synchro summon this card by summoning 2 level 5 synchro monsters and "Formula Synchron" using Fishborg Blaster instead.
  • Use "Super Polymerization" to get rid of this card, by using it as Fusion Material for "Elder Entity Norden", "El Shaddoll Construct", "Elemental HERO The Shining", "Gem-Knight Seraphinite", "Dragon Knight Draco-Equiste", "Amulet Dragon", etc.

OCG Rulings[]

  • "Must be Synchro Summoned, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways" is not treated as an effect of an Effect Monster.
  • The "This card's maximum number of attacks per Battle Phase equals the number of non-Tuner monsters used as its Synchro Material." effect is a Continuous Effect.[2]
  • It is not necessary to perform these additional attacks in a row. You can attack once, attack with a different monster, and then perform the second attack.[1]
  • While performing a second or higher attack with "Shooting Quasar Dragon", if "Skill Drain" is activated atAttack Declaration or during the Battle Step, since "Shooting Quasar Dragon" has its effects negated, the attack stops. Also, if "Shooting Quasar Dragon" has its effects negated by "Forbidden Chalice" during the "Damage Step", you still perform damage calculation.[3]
  • After Synchro Summoning "Shooting Quasar Dragon", if it is changed to face-down Defense Position by the effect of "Book of Moon", and then flipped face-up once again, it can only attack once per turn.[4]
  • If "Shooting Quasar Dragon" can attack three times by its own effect, and it is equipped with "Twin Swords of Flashing Light - Tryce", "Shooting Quasar Dragon" can attack a maximum of three times. Even after "Twin Swords of Flashing Light - Tryce" is destroyed, it can still attack a three times.[5]
  • The "Once per turn, during either player's turn, when a card or effect is activated: You can negate the activation, and if you do, destroy it." effect is a Quick Effect that can be activated during the Damage Step. It does not target.[2]
  • This effect of "Shooting Quasar Dragon" is applied as follows.[6]
    • It can negate the activation of the effects of Continuous Spell Cards like "Gateway of the Six",Continuous Trap Cards like "Ultimate Offering", and Field Spell Cards like "Dragon Ravine".[6]
    • It can negate the activation of effects activated outside of the field. For example, the effect of "Black Pendant" that is activated when it is sent to the Graveyard, the effect of "Skill Successor" that is activated from the Graveyard, or the effect of a banished "D.D. Scout Plane".[6]
    • When resolving the effect of Shooting Quasar Dragon, if it is no longer face-up on the field, its effect is still applied.[6]
  • The "When this card leaves the field: You can Special Summon 1 "Shooting Star Dragon" from your Extra Deck." effect is a Trigger Effect that can be activated even if this card leaves the field during the Damage Step. It does not target. Furthermore, if you have no copies of "Shooting Star Dragon" in your Extra Deck, this effect cannot be activated.[2]
  • If a face-down Defense Position "Shooting Quasar Dragon" leaves the field, you cannot Special Summon "Shooting Star Dragon". If your opponent controls your "Shooting Quasar Dragon" and it leaves the field, you can Special Summon "Shooting Star Dragon".[7]
  • If "Shooting Quasar Dragon" leaves the field in the middle of an effect resolution, or as Chain Link 2 or higher, the effect to Special Summon "Shooting Star Dragon" cannot be activated.[8]
  • If "Shooting Star Dragon" is Special Summoned by the effect of "Shooting Quasar Dragon", it is not treated as being properly Summoned. If it is sent to the Graveyard or it is banished, it cannot be Special Summoned.[9]
