46 (2)

In terms of her birth, Rogue's is a complete mystery. Born to an unknown mother and father, she was adopted by the shape-shifter Raven Darkhölme when she was four. At some point, Rogue was entrusted to the care of Irene Adler, and she and Mystique went to great lengths to hide her in a secluded area. The area they eventually chose was the backwater town of Caldecott County Mississippi. This is where Rogue grew up and where she considers home. As Irene had foreseen the form Rogue's powers would take, they also took extensive steps to ensure Rogue's isolation from contact with others as much as possible.

In spite of these precautions, while attending a party Rogue's powers manifested for the first time. She possesses the ability to take energy, memories, personality traits, and (if they are mutants) their powers for a short time through touching their skin. When she first got her powers, she was unable to control the powers she obtained. She also could not distinguish the memories taken from whom she touched from her own, causing significant confusion.

Season 1[]

  • Rogue Recruit

In Mississippi, outside of a school dance, Rogue's standing on the deck overlooking the sunset. Two boys come outside as well while her back is turned, one encouraging the other to make a move and reasoning that he had been staring at her all night. Though he initially hesitates, his friend convinces him and he comes up to her. Rogue turns to him and asks him if she can help him. Cody Robbins struggles to ask her for a dance before she starts to tell him that she is really just hanging out but soon changes her mind when she sees his sad expression, questioning what the harm would be in one dance.

She begins to dance with him and is soon knocked over. At that same moment, her foster mother Destiny is sensing her contact with him and though she cannot hear her, urges her foster daughter not to touch him. After she does, she merely utters "My dear child," in horror. However, this has not commenced yet, as Cody and Rogue are dancing away from each other. It does occur when Cody's friend, Ty tells him to get closer and to make his move before pushing him towards her, unintentionally knocking him into her. After Cody apologizes for pushing her down, he tries to help her up before the touch knocks him out.

Rogue soon has his memories and questions who she is after seeing them in her mind. While shaking and asking his comatose friend what was wrong, Ty asks Rogue what she did to him as she clings to her head and begins to run for the door as he runs after her and tries to block her exit. While seeing a memory of Cody pushing a rival football player out of the way during a game, Rogue does the exact same and pushes the boy in front of her. After being pushed aside and watching Rogue run, Ty remarks that he thought only Cody had moves like that.

Meanwhile, Charles Xavier tells the X-Men that Cerebro had detected a new mutant, of whom is Rogue and he believes to be a danger to herself and others. He tells the group that they are dealing with a rogue. In the meantime, Rogue is frantically running around in streets and nearly gets ran over before a man stops as she continues running and calls her a crazy kid as Rogue goes back to Cody's house. She even gets into the house, using the spare key left on the roof.

Rogue is then seemingly attacked by Wolverine, whom turns out to be Mystique in disguise. She chases Rogue out of the house and then soon morphs into Storm continuing her pursuit by attacking her with fake lightning. Irene tries to get Rogue to come with her, before Wolverine comes with Shadowcat and Nightcrawler, causing Rogue to continue running. Soon afterward, Rogue is confronted by Nightcrawler as he tells her about the prejudice he received for his appearance and his powers. However, just as the two were connecting, Shadowcat lunges at her and pins her down before Rogue easily manages to push her off of herself. While in the midst of their struggle, Rogue accidentally touches Nightcrawler, rendering him unconscious as she quickly teleports away from the scene to a graveyard.

In the graveyard, Rogue discovered she could speak German and found out Nightcrawler's real name as she started to have fun with his powers before teleporting and hurting herself. She began to sulk, asking herself when her nightmare would end. Later, she was confronted by Jean Grey, whom she recognized immediately from Kurt's memories before concluding that she was like the others. However, Jean convinces Rogue by reasoning that if she knew who she was then she knew Jean wouldn't hurt her. As Jean levitated a communicator to her, Rogue cited it as the latest fashion accessory before Cyclops and Storm arrive with the latter telling her that all the X-Men have one. Upon seeing Storm, Rogue recognizes her and quickly runs off.

There, she was attacked by Mystique posing as Cyclops, who claimed as him that you could not escape from the X-Men. She continued running and stumbled into the real Cyclops, much to her confusion as she shoves him away from her. She also came across Mystique again, this time posing as Jean. As her she stated that she guessed some people would not be helped before attacking her but Rogue teleports away. As the real Jean sees her, she asks her if she is hurt and tells her not to move but Rogue backs away from her. Storm comes behind her and asks what is wrong, telling her that the X-Men are her friends before she is touched by Rogue. When Cyclops runs over to the three, he questions what the added details of Rogue's powers are from before realizing that she has gained Storm's powers and soon tells Jean to both trying to shot her down, telling her that she has Storm's powers, yet Rogue does not have her control. Rogue soon hits a power-line, prompting Cyclops to tell Jean that if they hit the water Storm's in, she will be electrocuted. Rogue stresses that she has too much power and that she cannot control it before teleporting away.

Later, Mystique as Ms. Darkhölme welcomes Rogue to Bayville High and ensures her that she will be happy there. Rogue thanks her and leaves before Magneto begins to talk to Mystique. Magneto asks if she is certain that all of Rogue's positive memories of the X-Men have faded. Mystique tells him that she is positive. Outside the office, Rogue clings on to the communicator that she was given by Jean, and looks on.

Scott wants to destroy it,& gets ready to blast the gizmo to nothing and Kitty asks why she can't just phase through it and quietly short it out. Evan and Scott look at her like she has two heads and she says forget I said anything.

Kurt ports in to say "Reset. Don't..." before he disappears again. The X-Men argue over what he meant. Evan still wants to destroy it, but Scott says he meant for them to reset it. Scott resets it and Kurt ports them in by Raven's car.

Scott rushes over to Storm, but it turns out to be Rogue in disguise. She grabs him and absorbs his powers. Scott freaks out and stops the simulation. The base disappears and Rogue shuts down and drops to the floor.

Charles Xavier comes through Danger Room doors and tells Scott that he's never to stop simulation unless he's hurt. Scott tells Xavier that Rogue was not supposed to be part of the simulation. Xavier said he added her as an element of surprise and that they have to get used to that during missions. He tells them the training session is over and it's time to go to high school.

Rogue is working out in the gym when she overhears Scott and Jean talking outside. As they load the snow mobiles they talk about how fun the trip is going to be, and Rogue seems jealous. Ms. Darkhome comes up behind her and catches her watching them. She startles Rogue and tells her Scott will never be her friend. Rogue says that she's not interested in him. Raven tells her about overhearing them talk about having her as an enemy in their battle simulations. Rogue becomes upset and asks why they would do that, Ms. Darkhome tells her that it's time she remembers who her true friends are and that she hopes she enjoys the trip. Raven drops a backpack and leaves her alone.

Scott sees Rogue climbing on the bus and she smiles at him. On the bus, on the way to the mountains, it starts snowing. The teacher says too much snow and they will have to turn back. Later, the bus begins skidding out of control and weaves close to the cliff. Scott is able to blast a trench without anyone seeing except Rogue. It stops the bus, but the bus becomes stuck. Rogue suggests that they ride the snow mobiles up to the caves and wait out the storm there. Everyone agrees and they head out. Rogue challenges Scott to a race and they leave the others behind. She almost runs them off the mountain. Rogue wins and when Scott arrives at the cave, she tells him there is no trophy for second place.

In the cave, the teacher is giving the students a geology lecture. Rogue wanders off and Scott follows her. He loses track of her and almost falls off of a ledge. He calls out for her and she comes up behind him, asking what he wants from her. He tells her he doesn't want anything except her friendship. She cuts him off saying she wants the truth. She wants to know if she's a target for the X-Men. She says she knows all about the battle simulations with her as the enemy. He tells her they're not who she thinks they are, and that she's been lied to. He tells her she can join them. She tells him no thanks and starts to walk away. Paul walks up and says that everyone is looking for them. Rogue says she bets that they never practice fighting Paul.

Suddenly Paul morphs into Darkhölme and then into Mystique as she says that Rogue would lose that bet. Scott is shocked to find out that the principal is really Mystique. Mystique taunts him about Xavier hiding the truth from them, then she shoves him off of the ledge. Rogue makes a grab for him, but she's too late. She turns on Mystique asking why. Mystique tells her that she's only trying to protect her from Xavier and the X-Men. Rogue takes off her glove and grabs Mystique, telling her that there will be no more secrets. She gets flashbacks of Mystique morphing into the X-Men and chasing her, and of all the lies. Mystique passes out and Rogue turns away saying "Oh Scott, I'm so sorry".

On a ledge below Scott is trying to pull himself up, he looks up to see Mystique jumping down towards him. Scott is afraid, but then Mystique morphs into Rogue and pulls him up. The real Mystique tries to drop a boulder on both off them, and they end of falling into the river below. Scott saves them both from dropping over a waterfall by pulling them up onto an overhanging. The rocks break up, and Scott hits his head when they fall. Rogue tells Scott that she knows the truth now and apologizes for the things she's done. Scott passes out. Mystique appears on a ledge overhead.

Mystique morphs into a wolf and drops down to the narrow rock bridge that Rogue and Scott have landed on. Rogue drags Scott backward, trying to stay out of Mystique's reach.

Scott tells Rogue that the X-Men are coming but that they can't find them. Mystique closes in, Rogue pulls off his visor and tells him to open his eyes. A beam blasts through the snow for the X-Men follow it. Mystique gets too close, and Rogue absorbs Scott's power. She blasts Mystique off of the bridge and Mystique morphs into a bird to stop her fall. The X-Jet arrives and Mystique flies off. They pick up Scott and Rogue as the bridge collapses.

On the jet, Storm tends to Scott as Wolverine asks Rogue which side she's on. She asks if she'll be thrown off of the jet is she doesn't say them. Wolverine closes the hatch and tells her that's not their style, either they've earned her trust by now or not. She says them and Wolverine welcomes her to the X-Men.

Back at the institute, the kids confront Xavier about withholding info about Mystique. Xavier asks Rogue what she thinks. When Rogue says it isn't her place, Kitty tells her she's part of the family now. Rogue tells them that she's found that honesty is very important. Xavier tells them he'll try to be more open with them in the future.

She says Scott can deal with Lance like a leader. Scott uses an optic blast to knock Lance out of his raft. He then takes Lance's raft and wins the race. Jean says "or not".

Everyone argues over who should have won fairly. Hawk blows the whistle and makes them all do push-ups. He tells them that if they want to prove how tough they are, they have to get a flag from the top of Mt. Humiliation. Quicksilver says he can get the flag while his team takes a break, Nightcrawler says "not before I can". Hawk tells them that the whole team has to reach the top and retrieve the flag together.

The X-kids are running full tilt, and complaining about Scott, how all he cares about is winning the race.

Scott sends Kurt up to make sure that the flag is still up top. Then he gets Evan to Spyke a rope up to the top so they can win. Evan asks if he's sure he wants to do it that way and Scott says yes. Scott starts up the rope, but when he looks back, the other X-Men are staring at him disapprovingly. Jean starts climbing up the mountain by hand.

The X-Kids are almost to the flag when the tremors start. Spyke is knocked off of the wall, but Jean saves him with her TK. When Scott tries to get her to levitate them all to the top she refuses. Rogue finds The Brotherhood at the bottom of a shaft. Toad begs them not to leave them behind over a stupid race. Scott tells them they won't.

On the mountain, the X-Kids save the Brotherhood. As they're pulling out the last one, Avalanche, the Blob points towards the flag and Quicksilver takes off. Nightcrawler ports up and they reach the flag at the same time and begin wrestling over it. Hawk and the flag and a pic of all of the X-Men and Brotherhood at the top of the mountain drops to the ground beside him.

Wolverine tells them to try to get Juggernaut's helmet. Juggernaut goes for Jean, but the Blob rushes in and knocks him away from her. Nightcrawler ports in while he's stunned and unlatches one of the four latches holding on his helmet. Juggernaut throws Nightcrawler and then charges the Blob and knocks him back across the Danger Room.

Cyclops blasts him, but Juggernaut picks up a piece of the Danger Room wreckage and throws it at him. Avalanche uses his tremors and is able to make him stumble. Quicksilver is able to get to him long enough to open another latch. Juggernaut throws Quicksilver off, but Storm steps up and disorients him with wind gusts. He stumbles back and falls. Kit and Rogue phase out of the wall and are able to get the last two latches. Toad uses his tongue to grab Juggernaut's helmet and yank it free. Back at the lookout, the X-Men talk over the loss of the Institute and Xavier. Kitty's upset because they can't return home or to school. Scott is upset that he didn't get the info about Xavier's location from Mystique, but Logan tells him that they'll find him on their own.

Ororo tells them all that they have a new world to deal with now, one that fears them and that somehow they have to find a way to teach them that they are the good guys before it's too late.

  • The Stuff of Villains

Evan is hassled by some thugs. Rogue steps in to help, but Evan pops his spikes and the thugs run off threatening to tell Principal Kelly and get them thrown out. Evan has a hard time retracting his spikes when he finally does, Rogue runs off to stop the thugs. Gambit gets to them first though and tells them not to mess with the mutants. They balk, but after a demonstration of his power they agree and take off.

Rogue gets there just as they're leaving and asks Gambit what he's doing. Gambit basically blows her off and leaves. Kitty shows up and asks what's going on. She wants to go get Scott to follow Gambit, but Rogue tells her that there's no time and drags her off.

Rogue and Kitty make it to the Brotherhood house just as they boys take off into Lance's jeep. They follow by phasing in and out of vehicles that are heading the same direction. The Brotherhood are hiding out on a cliff overlooking mountain highway. As they wait, Lance tells Fred and Todd that he doesn't care anything about Magneto, he only wants to get his hands on the traitor Pietro. The Brotherhood ambush the military convoy that's transporting Pietro. Rogue and Kitty finally catch up to them just as the scuffle starts.

Rogue sneaks up on Lance and zaps him. Later, she tries to stop them with Lance's power, but Kitty tells her it's no use, as they're all gone. The girls are caught by the military officers, but the leader tells them that not everyone hates mutants and that he knows they helped and they're free to go.

At the Xavier Institute, Xavier tells Kitty and Rogue that they can't deal with every problem that comes along, that they have their own lives to lead. Scott tells them that they've also got detention for skipping out on school. Kitty storms off mad and the others laugh.

  • The Stuff of Heroes

Rogue and Logan are shopping in a convenience store for food. More troops come into the store and recognize Rogue. They get into a fight and Wolverine and Rogue end up getting away on Logan's motorcycle, but the troops are right on their tail.

Rogue and Logan come flying into the cave with the military right behind them.

Logan wants to fight, but Cyclops stops him. He has Iceman ice up the cave entrance as they argue about what to do. Logan says that the military is now the enemy, they have to fight. Cyclops says that they're not and that the X-Men are supposed to be heroes. Wolverine finally says that if Cyclops wants to take charge, then they're on their own and he takes off. The X-Kids disable the choppers without hurting anyone and take off in the X-Jet.

The kids pick up coverage of the hearings on the jet and find out that Juggernaut is on the loose.

The X-Men finally arrive at the dam and go head to head with Juggernaut. Juggernaut busts his way out of the dam wall Shadowcat trapped him in. Cyclops blasts him full force with his beams and knocks the helmet off of his head. But he himself gets caught. All three of the boys rush him and try to help, Juggernaut swats them all off. Shadowcat and Rogue phase up behind him and Kitty boosts Rogue up onto his shoulders.

Juggernaut loses hold of Cyclops and Nightcrawler ports him to safety as Rogue continues to absorb his powers. Finally, the two of them collapse. Juggernaut rises to his feet first and goes after the unconscious Rogue. Rogue gets up before he can reach her, and as he swings at her full force she bats his fist away. They go head to head, but Juggernaut can't touch Rogue. She lifts him up over her head and throws him from the top of the dam. In mid-flight, Iceman freezes him into a huge block of Ice. Then they lose track of him.

On the dam, Rogue collapses. As Jean and Cyclops rush to help her she tells them that she just absorbed a huge part of Juggernaut's mind. She now knows the Professor is at Stokes County Maximum Security Facility. Later, the President gives a speech saying that the X-Men have been cleared of all charges and that the real villain behind the Sentinel fiasco, Bolivar Trask, has been jailed. He says that everyone should be more open-minded about mutants and that from now on, they should be free of any prosecution.

  • Mainstream

Xavier mentally wakes up the rest of the X-kids and calls the older kids into a meeting. All of the students are now crowded into a few rooms in the sub floors. At the meeting, Xavier tells them that they're going to be allowed back to school for one day as long as they do not use their powers. That night the school board is holding a meeting to vote on whether or not to ban mutants from the schools permanently.

Kitty tells him that she's afraid to go back, that they don't fit in there, anymore. Xavier tells her that they now have a chance to go back and be appreciated for everything they are. They see the morning paper calling mutants monsters and Spyke gets angry. Nightcrawler starts reading the article and realizes that his identity is still "unknown". Scott tells him that it's only a matter of time before everyone realizes who he really is since he lives at the Xavier Institute. Xavier tells them all that it's an opportunity for them to set an example and he wants them all to be at the meeting that night.

At school, the rest of the students gawk and taunt the X-Men as they file into school. Later Duncan Matthews and some of his friends start pushing Scott around trying to get him to use his powers so he'll be expelled. Kitty and Rogue show up to defend Scott and scare off Duncan and company.

As they're leaving Kitty sees Kurt hiding behind a building. He was there the whole time but didn't step up to help Scott. He turns to leave, but some other kids are there and ask him if he isn't friends with the mutants. He tells them that he "used to be" and tries to get away, but Kitty and Rogue are right there behind him and heard the whole thing. Kitty tells him thanks, but Kurt rambles on about having to be somewhere and runs off.

The Brotherhood and Duncan team up and start a fight with the other X-kids in the parking lot outside. Scott tells the others that they are not to use their power, no matter what. So the X-kids take a beating and do their best to get out of harm's way. Lance starts to bring down the entire auditorium.

The Brotherhood steps it up a notch and the X-Men are finally forced to use their powers to save the innocent bystanders. Kurt finally steps in to help and when the X-Men regroup and the Brotherhood runs off. The X-Men stand in front of the auditorium and look sadly at the destroyed parking lot.

Next morning, Xavier calls everyone to another meeting. Logan asked if they are on their way to a funeral as everyone walks by with sadden faces. He tells them that the board voted to allow them back into school. The kids aren't too happy about going back, but Xavier tells them that it's not only an honor for them to be taking the first step in this "new world", but it's also their responsibility for the mutants yet to come. He tells them how proud he is of them, and that no matter what, the X-Men will endure.

Season 4[]

Rogue shows a romantic interest in Gambit in Dark Horizon I where she kisses him to absorb his powers while being mind-controlled. However, she could have just touched his skin like she did to everyone else.

When Mesmero returned to enslave Rogue, using her to absorb all of the powers of the X-Men, The Brotherhood and The Acolytes. During Jean and Scott's graduation ceremony, Magneto and his team arrived, ruining the ceremony, and allowing Magneto to tell them what Rogue had done. The two teams combined, and Charles Xavier realized that he might know where Tomb of Apocalypse was. With the help of Cerebro, Charles unlocked the memories he gained from Mesmero and believed to have found that Apocalypse was entombed underneath Giza. However, when the combined Brotherhood/X-Men team arrived, they found out it was a trap, and fought their way through to an ancient room, where Beast translated the Hieroglyphics and found out that En Sabah Nur was the first mutant, and that an ancient pharaoh named Rama-Tut had found a ship hr believed not of this Earth, though it had really been created in the future, and that Apocalypse had seized control of it in order to turn all the world's people into mutants. Using his own mind to control the ship, Xavier teleported them all to Apocalypse's real tomb in Tibet, where Gambit, Sabretooth, and Wolverine had tracked Mesmero, Rogue, and Mystique to already. However, the team arrived too late to stop Apocalypse from drawing all of their powers from Rogue and becoming powerful enough to live up to his name

Rogue is dealing with a lot of feelings of hatred and betrayal due to her adopted mother really being Mystique who, originally, only adopted her to use her for her powers. Still so angry at her after she has turned to stone, Rogue shoves her off a cliff to finally end her and to try and heal herself, much to Kurt's dismay. Later in "Cajun Spice", Remy kidnaps Rogue, claiming she'd looked so unhappy for the past couple weeks and brought her with him to New Orleans. However, after accidentally absorbing him, she was mad once again that he, too, was using her for her powers. It is unclear where their feelings stand for each other at the end after he tries to apologize to Rogue, who leaves him to go back with the X-Men.

Future[]

When Charles Xavier was under Apocalypse's control, he was able to scan the mind of Apocalypse. In the Future, Xavier saw adult versions of the X-Men; including Rogue. She is seen wearing a dark navy blue X-Men uniform underneath a dark brown trench coat, similar to the one she wore on occasion in the series, with gray combat boots. She's wearing a black choker necklace with the "x" logo and a gold utility belt also bearing the "x" logo. Rogue's hair is now parted to the right side of her face. Though she is never seen gaining Ms. Marvel's powers, Rogue is seen flying and noticeably not wearing gloves, indicating that she does eventually gain the ability to activate her power at will. The writers have also stated she become a couple with Scott at some point.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Power Absorption: Rogue has the ability to absorb a person's life force through direct skin contact, acquiring the individual's memories, skills, powers and a fraction of the individual's personality for a limited time. The longer she stays in contact with them, the longer she retains the skills and abilities she absorbs. If she maintains contact for too long, she may put the other person in a coma or even kill them. However, Rogue retains the memories of those she touches for a much longer period.
    • Even though the powers and skills she absorbs fade away, her mind retains a psionic imprint of every individual she has ever used her powers on. In the episode Self Possessed, following the absorption of Mystique's shape-shifting abilities, all the previous personalities that Rogue had absorbed begin to struggle for control of her body, and she begins to assume their physical appearance as well as their powers, such as, among others, Sabretooth, Juggernaut, Magneto, Cyclops, Multiple and Storm.
    • Ultimately, she was able to use all the abilities she had ever absorbed for a brief period, though this posed considerable risk to her, before Professor Xavier used his telepathic powers to wipe all the imprinted personalities from her mind. Later, in the episode Dark Horizon I, Rogue absorbed and consciously used the powers of the X-Men, Brotherhood, and Magneto's Acolytes, showing that, with time and development, she may be able to access past abilities and skills she has absorbed.
    • It is currently unknown if she can absorb abilities from mutants with artificial enhancements; such as Wolverine; who has Adamantium bonded to his skeleton and claws, making them nearly indestructible. In Charles Xavier's vision of the future she develops flight and super strength, possibly acquired from another mutant.
