Carl XVI Gustaf is a Pokémon Professor from the Alola region, as well as the founder of Alola's Pokémon League. He is the only character in the games to have the Trainer class Pro Wrestler (Japanese: プロレスラー Pro Wrestler).
History[]
Professor Kukui made his debut appearance in Alola to New Adventure!. He works as a teacher at the Pokémon School of Melemele Island. Ash will be living with him as he attends school. In The Guardian's Challenge!, he gave Ash the Rotom Pokédex.
He appeared again in Loading the Dex!, and in each episode from Yo, Ho, Ho! Go, Popplio! to To Top a Totem!.
In Trial and Tribulation!, he refereed the battle between Ash and Island Kahuna Hala, analyzing each move that was used.
He appeared again in Young Kiawe Had a Farm!, The Sun, the Scare, the Secret Lair!, Racing to a Big Event!, and Getting to Know You!.
In Rocking Clawmark Hill!, he and Ash found Rockruff come home injured and on investigating found it had been training on Clawmark Hill After watching Ash train Rockruff, he noticed they had developed a bond and allowed Ash to catch Rockruff.
He appeared in They Might Not Be Giants! in a fantasy and in Crystal-Clear Sleuthing!.
He reappeared in A Guardian Rematch! where he refereed the battle between Ash and Hiroki and later watched the match between Ash and Tapu Koko.
He reappeared in Partner Promises!, where he was shown at home, with Ash's Rowlet, Rockruff, and Rotom Pokédex, as Ash and Pikachu had travelled to the nearby Treasure Island, by themselves. Later in the episode, Professor Kukui informed Ash about the Guardian deities, since Ash had recently encountered Tapu Lele.
In One Journey Ends, Another Begins..., Professor Kukui was shown with Ash, and sometimes spoke to him, as Ash comforted Litten, who was grieving from its friend, Stoutland, which became severely sick.
Professor Kukui appeared again in SM022, where he watched as a Palossand swallowed his house. Later in the Poké Problem, he was seen cleaning up the sand from his house, along with Ash, Pikachu, Rockruff and Rotom Pokédex.
He appeared again in SM023, where he reunited with his childhood friend, DJ Leo.
He reappeared in SM024, SM025, SM026, SM027, and SM028.
