Fire titan

Mnemosyne was one of several Titans chained underneath the world by the Olympians. She was briefly released by Hera. (Hercules and Xena - The Animated Movie: The Battle for Mount Olympus)

Unlike most of the titans, Mnemosyne retained a mortal following after her imprisonment and was worshiped as the goddess of memory. The Temple of Mnemosyne, as the name implies, was the center of her worship.(XWP: "Forget Me Not")

When seeking information on how to stop Dahak, Hercules sought out Mnemosyne who is trapped in a fiery cave. Aside from Zeus, she is the only living being that was around to witness Dahak's first defeat and is accessible from the mortal realm. Hercules talked with her to learn about the Titans' war with Dahak a thousand years before. (HTLJ: "Let There Be Light")

Appearance[]

Mnemosyne is a fire titaness, she is shown as having a humanoid yellow body (composition unknown) with fire as hair (similar to the Disney portrayal of Hades) and burning on her arms. Her form is later altered by Hera, giving her a devil tail, long brown hair, markings on her face, bestial legs and VERY sharp claws. She meets her end when both she and Tethys charge Ioalus from opposite directions, Ioalus jumps out of the way at the last second, causing Mnemosyne and Tethys to collide. The two Titanesses are then kicked off Olympus into tartarus.

Abilities[]

•Pyrokinesis: Mnemosyne has the ability to breathe fire (as seen when she melts Ioalus's sword.)

Appearances[]

  • Hercules and Xena - The Animated Movie: The Battle for Mount Olympus
  • HTLJ: "Let There Be Light"

Background[]

  • Mnemosyne was voiced by Alison Wall in her animated performance and Claire Stansfield in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Donogh Rees, who previously played Frigga, provided the likeness for the CGI version in "Let There Be Light."
  • Mnemosyne's live-action appearance is highly consistent with that of her animated one, unlike Crius. This is probably because Mnemosyne's live-action appearance occurred after the animated film was released.
  • In classical mythology, Mnemosyne (Greek Mνημοσύνη), was a Titaness, was the daughter of Gaea and Uranus. She was the personification of memory and with Zeus, was the mother of the nine Muses.
