Miner (original French name Schtroumpf Mineur) is one of the minor characters of the Smurfs comic books and the 1981 cartoon show. He has appeared on the show from Season 4 up until Season 7.
Character[]
Miner is a spelunker who's usually found working in the mines extracting useful metals. He speaks in an Irish accent and uses Irish proclamations, such as "Faith and Begorra!" in the 1981 cartoon.
He is easily identified by a candle that he wears on the top of his Smurf hat.
Miner Smurf also appears in the comic books, albeit in a much lesser role, wearing a blue jacket. Sometimes he has a candle on his hat, while other times he wears a trimmed hat.
Relationships With Others[]
Archeologist Smurf[]
In the comic books, Miner has a close friendship with Archeologist Smurf, mostly because they have similar workplaces.
Greedy Smurf[]
In "The Master Smurf" (his possible true first appearance in the 1981 TV series), Miner trusts Greedy Smurf with a mysterious crown (one of the two Crowns Of The Titans) he uncovered in the mines. Earlier, he also comments that Greedy's heart is as big as his appetite when the chef brings him lunch.
At the end of "Journey To The Center Of The Smurf", Greedy gives Miner a marshmallow for his hard work of finding coal.
Smurf Videogames[]
Smurfs' Village[]
In the Smurfs' Village game, Miner will be unlocked at Level 12. He has two games for players to dig out some rocks for jewels, treasures, and gold which can change into XP and money. One game is located in the main village region and the other is in the mountain region. He has his own hut in both regions. Him and his mine are also in the Grove. Placing his mine will unlock caves and allows the player to make their own cave network. His Grove Mine gives the player 5 stone every 24 hours and 5000 XP when placed.
Trivia[]
- In "Bigmouth Smurf", Miner states that he is Irish. This suggests that not only does Ireland exist in the Smurf universe, but that there is another population of Smurfs in Ireland.
