Lady Freya was the leader of the Vanir. They used a "Great Light" located on top of their village to keep the Shadow Nixes at bay.
When the "Great Light" went out, Freya searched for the potions needed to reignite it and encountered the Avengers Hawkeye and Falcon, who had been teleported to Vanaheim by accident.
Falcon managed to recreate the potions needed to reignite the "Great Light," as they were nothing more than chemicals, and with the help of Hawkeye, reignited it, destroying the Shadow Nixes trying to get into the village.[1]
