Earth yugioh timeline

When the universe began it split into darkness and light.[1] As the light vanished soon, the darkness filled the universe and created everything in the world, including life.[1][2] First one card was born, the front represented the Earth also designated as the Human World and the Duel Monsters Spirit World, while the darkness was the World of Darkness.[3] Eventually, the stars and planets were born, including the Earth, where the humans stood at the top of all creations.[3]Inevitably, the humans discovered the Duel Monsters, therefore, it became a touchstone to test their souls.[3]

Atlantis[]

Atlantis is a legendary island. In the anime universe it was a real island that existed 10,000 years before the present day's events. The origins of Duel Monsters can be traced back to Atlantis, where the monsters existed as Duel Spirits.

Atlantis was once a perfect city, surrounded by the ocean isolating it from the rest of the world. It was inhabited by Duel Monster Spirits and humans, who coexisted peacefully. They were said to have known nothing of violence.

Atlantis was governed by Ironheart and later his son Dartz.

One day darkness descended on the city. A volcano erupted and fragments of the Orichalcos stone showered down upon the city. The Orichalcos granted the citizens knowledge of power. The Orichalcos could also be used to produce energy. Atlantis quickly began to advance technologically and in a few years became the most advanced civilization in the world, even more so than the modern world.

The Battle of Atlantis[]

As the city progressed, people became more corrupt, greedy and violent. Dartz saw it as his duty to correct this. The people who had become corrupt on the inside, physical appearance started to change to reflect it. Dartz's wife, Iona even changed to a hideous beast. She proceeded to attack him, but he killed her with his sword. Wondering how a perfect society could crumble like this, Dartz consulted the Orichalcos stone. He was given the impression that the people of Atlantis were evil and he must wipe them out and start fresh.

Unable to accomplish this task by himself, the Orichalcos told him to revive its master The Great Leviathan to assist him in his battle against humanity. But Ironheart stood in Dartz's way and advised him to destroy the Orichalcos stones and return to their old way of life. Having seen the true nature of the people, Dartz refused, convinced he must wipe them out.

Ironheart and Dartz's daughter Chris refused to side with Dartz. As Dartz unleashed an army of Orichalcos Soldiers on the city, Ironheart and Chris led a group of refugees from the city to the nearby mountains where Ironheart searched for the creatures of ancient power; the knights Timaeus, Critias and Hermos, to assist them in a battle against Dartz. However the knights were turned into dragons by Dartz to weaken their power.

Ironheart led an army of Duel Monster Spirits and the Legendary Dragons to battle Dartz, the Orichalcos Soldiers and The Great Leviathan. Neither side was victorious and Atlantis sunk to the bottom of the ocean. The Duel Spirits were sealed away and scattered across the world, until they would be needed again, the dragons were sealed in crystals and The Great Leviathan had its power drained before being sealed back to its world.

Ancient Egypt[]

Atem was born around the 1,000 B.C. (3,000 B.C. in the English dub) as the only son of King Aknamkanon. Atem became heir to the Egyptian throne and the Millennium Pendant. During his childhood he befriended Mana and was protected by Mahad. In one incident, Atem was attacked by a snake, but Mahad took the hit for the young prince. Atem then saved him by sucking the venom out.

His father Aknamkanon forced him on a trip to an ancient tomb which Atem did not want to go. Atem accidentally slipped and almost fell off the edge. He asked for his father's help, but he told Atem that he needed to be strong on his own and he was able to get back on the path. Once in the main tomb, his father made a deal with the monsters to spare his son from the repercussions of the horrible actions from the creation of the Millennium Items.

One day, Priest Seto was appointed as guardian of the Millennium Rod by Aknamkanon. Atem was present for the ceremony. The Pharaoh announced that Seto would serve him as his right hand. Secretly, Aknamkanon's brother, Aknadin, showed resentment towards Atem as Seto was his son and Aknadin wanted him to be Pharaoh, a goal he vowed to accomplish. He and Priest Seto became friends and rivals who competed with each other by testing their mystical skills and abilities.

On the day he became Pharaoh, he was attacked by a common thief but was saved by Mahad. After this, the thief was put through the Millennium trial and it was discovered that he was possessed and they let him go. Just minutes after that, his kingdom was attacked by Bandit King Bakura. Bakura had raided the tomb of his father Aknamkanon and stolen his DiaDhank and his coffin. Atem put Bakura through the Millennium trial, but it failed. Atem announced that Bakura's disrespect was appalling. Bakura easily defeated The Sacred Guardians with his Diabound before Atem stepped in and challenged him with Obelisk the Tormentor. Diabound was severely injured and after almost being destroyed, Bakura fled.

Atem was awoken by a nightmare of Mahad dying in battle at the hands of Bakura. He and Mana went to Mahad's monster tablet and realized that he was in a battle with Bakura. The two headed to the spell-castors' training grounds where Atem's troopers were being attacked by Bakura's followers. Atem used a sword to knock over some of them and got Mana to send for back up before heading in to take out the rest of the thugs. During the fight, the back up arrived but were too late. Mahad's Millennium Ring was in Bakura's hands and he was merged with his Illusion Magician. The stone tablet then fell off the cliff and almost crushed Mana but Atem was able to save her.

Bakura later returned to the kingdom to possess Aknadin. After this, he and Atem fought each other once again. Atem fought with Slifer the Sky Dragon whilst riding on horseback. While they fought, he ran past Dartz, a resident of Atlantis who was to become his enemy in 3000 years (5000 years in the English version). Atem was defeated and lost his Millennium Pendant to Bakura.

After Atem was found, he and the other guardians headed for Kul Elna, the birth place of the Millennium Items. Atem and Bakura fought one last time. As Atem was about to defeat Bakura, Aknadin showed up with the Millennium Key that he stole from Shada and stole the other Millennium Items. After putting them in the Millennium Stone, Zorc Necrophades appeared and offered Aknadin anything he desired in exchange for his loyalty. Aknadin requested for Priest Seto to become the new king of Egypt, revealing that Seto was his son in the process. Zorc agreed and transformed Aknadin into Shadow Magus, who then attempted to destroy Atem, but Hassan appeared and protected him. Magus tried to convince Seto to join his side, but Atem convinced him not to. Magus took Seto and escaped into a worm hole that lead to the kingdom, Atem following in pursuit. However, in Kul Elna, Bakura sacrificed himself to summon Zorc Necrophades. Atem needed Priest Seto to become the new king in case Atem were to fall so he set off after him.

By the time Atem got there, Magus had possessed Seto after the latter refused to serve him. Magus had also killed Kisara and taken her spirit monster, the Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Seto/Aknadin tormented Atem as to how powerless he was to stop the dark one. Atem and Seto fought, Atem using Dark Magician (Mahad) and Seto using Blue-Eyes White Dragon, with Seto emerging as the victor. However, Kisara stopped Blue-Eyes from killing Atem and destroyed Aknadin. Seto was free from Aknadin's control, and Atem thanked Kisara for this. This fight would be the main source of Yami Yugi and Seto Kaiba's rivalry.

However, after their duel, Zorc was set for the kingdom. Zorc arrived and a massive battle began. However Zorc was able to overcome Atem's forces. It then became clear that without the Millennium Items, they did not stand a chance. Isis and Mana set off to retrieve them. Mana returned but Isis and Shimon had perished at Zorc's hands. Atem then brought out all three Egyptian Gods to fight Zorc. Though the gods were able to overpower him, it did not last. Without the combined form of the gods The Creator of Light, Zorc could never be destroyed. Zorc then destroyed all three gods and turned them into stone before proceeding to lay waste to the rest of the kingdom.

Not wanting Zorc's rampage to continue into other parts of the world, Atem defeated Zorc by using an extremely powerful magic spell which had included his secret true name and sealed both him and Zorc within the chambers of the mystical Millennium Puzzle, erasing his own memories to keep the spell from ever being used to return Zorc to life ever again. The Puzzle was then destroyed by Priest Seto, whom he had abdicated the throne to, scattered into dozens of pieces.

Atem's puzzle was placed in a box and placed in his tomb. A number of traps and monsters were placed within to protect the artifact and traces of his name were destroyed. This action would cause history to refer to him as the "Nameless Pharaoh". Priest Seto built the Tablet of Lost Memories, a famous stone tablet depicting them battling one another with their favorite monsters, Blue-Eyes White Dragon (Kisara) and Dark Magician (Mahad), as a symbol of their friendship.

Tomb Keepers[]

An ancient prophecy had predicted that the Pharaoh would return shortly after his own demise in the modern-day era, the Ishtar family devoted their lives to protecting the Pharaoh's tomb until that time. The same would happen for all the descendants of the Ishtar family for the next three thousand years (five thousand in the 4kids version), something Marik Ishtar would resent and swear vengeance on the pharaoh when his spirit did indeed return.

A guardian of the pharaoh's court named Shadi who was also guardian of the Millennium Items would spend the next five thousand years as a disembodied spirit/ghost to protect the Pharaoh's tomb and pass on one of the seven Millennium Items to only those worthy of their great magical power.

3,000/5,000-year gap[]

Over the course of the next three thousand years (5000 in the English anime) many would attempt to steal the Millennium Puzzle but would fall victim to the traps, except for one person who was driven mad and would wander his village saying "The shadow game. Beware".

Discovery of the Millennium Puzzle[]

Solomon visited the Valley of the Kings in hopes of finding the Pharaoh's tomb. He hired two guides, Ahmet and Mushara to help him locate and navigate the tomb. The tomb was riddled with traps, which Solomon was able to discover. In one such trap, you had to walk with your left foot forward, as a sign of respect to the statues of the Pharaoh. Mushara failed to do so, and was attacked by the statues, and fell to his death. In the final room, Ahmet fell victim to a trap and was devoured by a monster. Solomon nearly fell victim as well, but was saved by the spirit of Pharaoh Atem. It was at the end of this room that he discovered the Millennium Puzzle.

Yu-Gi-Oh![]

3000 years later in the present age, a young boy named Yugi Muto solves the Millennium Puzzle and is possessed by the spirit of the Nameless Pharaoh, who lost all of his memories from his old life. As a thank you to the spirit who saved him from bullies and gave him new friends, Yugi decided to help the spirit out and find a way to recover his lost memories and send him to the after life.

Duelist Kingdom[]

Following the death of Maximillion Pegasus' lover Cecelia, Pegasus became interested in the ancient Egyptian beliefs about life after death and traveled to Egypt to learn more. There he followed Shadi to an underground chamber. Since only Millennium Item holders were permitted to leave, he was put on trial by the Millennium Eye, to become its owner. During the test, he was briefly embraced by an illusion of Cecelia.[1]

After creating the game Duel Monsters, Pegasus took interest in KaibaCorp's Solid Vision technology, which could enhance the game by creating realistic projections of the monsters. He also saw it as a means of creating another lifelike projection of Cecelia. His company Industrial Illusions allied with KaibaCorp to work on using Solid Vision for Duel Monsters.[2]

Pegasus expressed an interest in seizing KaibaCorp and had spies from Industrial Illusions employed by KaibaCorp, including Kemo. KaibaCorp's good reputation was credited to its president, Seto Kaiba, being the number one gamer in Japan. However when Kaiba was defeated in a Duel by Yugi Muto and his other self, Yami Yugi, their reputation dropped as investors lost confidence in them. In the manga, Kaiba was also left in a coma due to his Penalty Game. Pegasus made a secret business deal with KaibaCorp's largest shareholders, The Big Five, which would result in him becoming CEO of KaibaCorp. As part of the deal Pegasus was required to defeat Yugi Muto in an official Duel to restore KaibaCorp's reputation. Afterwards, Pegasus set up the Duelist Kingdom tournament in order to face Yugi in an official Duel.[2]

Pegasus sent invitations to forty of Japan's top Duelists, including Yugi. He also sent Yugi a videotape, which enabled the two of them to Duel through a TV. He defeated Yugi and stripped the soul of Yugi's grandfather, Solomon Muto, from his body as Yugi's Penalty Game. Yugi was forced to enter the tournament in order to return his grandfather to normal.[3][4][5]

Finalists from the Japanese National Duel Monsters Championship were invited and were the only participants given their own room on the boat ride. They included Rex Raptor and Weevil Underwood.

Other invited Duelists included Bonz, Sid, Mako Tsunami, Mai Valentine and Zygor.

Joey Wheeler was not to be invited to the tournament, but he desperately needed the prize money in order to pay for eye surgery for his sister Serenity, who was in danger of going blind. Yugi gave one of his Star Chips to Joey, allowing him to compete. Bandit Keith was not invited either, but he snuck his way into the tournament, hoping to get revenge on Pegasus for an earlier defeat.

Yugi's friends Téa Gardner and Tristan Taylor accompanied Yugi and Joey to the tournament to support them. Bakura Ryou also came along to support them and learn more about the Millennium Items. In the manga, Bakura was with them, the whole time. In the anime, they didn't know he had come until midway through the preliminaries.

The boat to the island left from Domino Pier.[6][7]

In the manga, Yugi's friends weren't shown to have any problem boarding the ship despite not being officially invited. In the anime, Téa and Tristan had to sneak into the cargo hold. Bakura also managed to sneak on. Joey got into a bit of trouble with the officials who saw him boarding without any evidence that he was in the tournament. However Yugi spotted him and gave him one of his Star Chips, entitling him to take part in the tournament. (In the manga, Yugi had already given him one of his Star Chips).[6][7]

Most players had to sleep in the common area, while finalists from the previous tournament got their own rooms. In the anime, Joey took advantage of being in the common area to trade for "Baby Dragon", "Salamandra", Shield & Sword" and "Kunai with Chain". Mai was unhappy with having to sleep in the common area, so she flirted with Rex to get him to share his room. She then challenged him to a Duel to have the room to herself or be slave to Rex's desires. Using her Aroma Tactics, she easily won.[6][7]

While speaking with Yugi on the Deck, Weevil asked to see Yugi's "Exodia" cards and proceeded to throw them overboard. Joey tried diving into the water to retrieve them, but only managed to get back two of them before being rescued[6][7]

After arriving, participants had any extra cards confiscated so that they each only had 40 cards.

In order to get revenge on Weevil for throwing the "Exodia" cards overboard, Yami Yugi challenged him to the first Duel of the tournament. Since he vowed to eliminate Weevil, but only had one Star Chip to bet, he also bet his life for Weevil's second Star Chip (In the anime, he bet his Deck rather than his life). Yami Yugi proceeded to win and obtained Weevil's title as the Japanese National Champion. Since Weevil was eliminated, Joey also took his Dueling Gauntlet.[8][9][10][11][12][13]

Mai defeated an opponent using her Aroma Tactics. Afterwards she challenged Joey to a Duel after considering it unwise to challenge Yugi this soon. Joey struggled at first, but figured out Mai's Aroma Tactics strategy and managed to beat her, winning one Star Chip.[14][15][16]

Yugi and his friends were lured to Mako Tsunami's territory after being attracted by the smell of his food. After sharing a meal, Mako challenged Yugi to a Duel, where he had home advantage on the Ocean terrain. Yami managed to win the Duel, winning two more Star Chips.[17][18][19]

Yugi and his friends saw a Duelist being disqualified for running out of Star Chips, despite his insistence that they had been stolen. Yugi and Joey offered to help find the thief and return his Star Chips. The thief turned out to be Mokuba Kaiba, who had escaped Pegasus' captivity and was trying to eliminate Yugi from the tournament, so that Pegasus would not get to defeat him. However Mokuba was unable to beat Yugi and attempted to steal his Star Chips, grabbing two of them. After convincing Mokuba that he would help Kaiba, Mokuba tried giving Yugi his Star Chips, but Kemo forbid it, as Star Chips could only be own through Dueling. In the anime, Kemo slapped the Star Chips into the water.[20][21] Kemo then arranged an opponent for Yugi.

In the manga, Yugi's arranged opponent was the Player Killer (Eliminator), the Ventriloquist of the Dead and they each bet three Star Chips. The ventriloquist used a puppet of Seto Kaiba to hold and play his cards. He used the real Kaiba's Deck, which Pegasus' men had stolen and had the puppet claim to be the real Kaiba borrowing the body of a doll to get revenge on Yugi. During the Duel, one of the "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" cards played by the ventriloquist destroyed itself as the real Kaiba awoke from his coma. From that point, the ventriloquist Dueled without using the puppet. When Yugi won, he inflicted a Penalty Game on the ventriloquist, making him believe the puppet was taunting him, while now looking like the ventriloquist.[2][22][23]

In the anime, Yugi's arranged opponent was the Eliminator, Ghost Kaiba, and they each bet three Star Chips. Ghost Kaiba pretended to be Kaiba at first. He also used Kaiba's Deck, which Pegasus' men had stolen. The real Kaiba hacked into Pegasus computer system during the Duel and infected one of the "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" cards with a virus, causing it to weaken and destroy itself.[24][25]

At some point, Mai defeated more opponents, upping her Star Chip count to eight. Rex Raptor, who was still mad at her over the Duel they had on the boat ride, tried challenging her to a rematch, but Mai was not interested in Dueling him a second time. However Mai wanted to make-up for losing to Joey earlier, but thought it shallow to challenge Joey to another Duel, so she accepted Rex's challenge under the condition that he defeat Joey first. This way if Rex won and she defeated Rex, it would be like beating both of them.

Joey and Rex bet two Star Chips on their Duel. Towards the end of the Duel, they played their ace cards "Time Wizard" and "Red-Eyes Black Dragon", which they also put on ante. "Time Wizard" succeeded in aging "Red-Eyes Black Dragon" winning the Duel for Joey.

  • In the anime version, at night, Yugi beats Dark Bakura in a Shadow Game. This Duel was adapted from the Monster World RPG game in Volumes 6 & 7 of the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga, and does not take place in the manga. No star chips are wagered.
  • Mai gets beaten by PaniK and loses 8 star chips (Duel not featured). MAI'S TOTAL: 0.
  • Yugi beats PaniK to give Mai all of her star chips back. MAI'S TOTAL: 8.
  • As Seto arrives to Duelist Kingdom, his attitude angers Joey and he challenges Seto to a Duel. In the end, Seto's "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" defeats Joey's "Red-Eyes Black Dragon".
  • Joey beats Bonz, a zombie Duelist with cards from Bandit Keith. Obtains +4 star chips. JOEY'S TOTAL: 8.
  • Joey and Yugi fight together against Para and Dox, who are "Eliminators". YUGI'S TOTAL: 10. JOEY'S TOTAL: 10.
  • Pegasus also has to get Kaiba's technology. Pegasus appeals to The Big Five, Kaiba's Board of Directors, and abducts Mokuba. Kaiba goes to Duelist Kingdom to get Mokuba back. Pegasus traps Mokuba's soul in a card.
    • In the dub, Pegasus forces Kaiba to beat Yugi to try and get Mokuba back. The Big 5 are fired after this arc in the manga.
  • Kaiba confronts Yugi on the top of the castle, explaining his situation to him. He also wants a rematch after losing the first Duel they played. Yugi accepts the challenge, and they each wager 5 Star Chips so that only one of them will be allowed entry into the Castle. During this Duel, Kaiba merges his three "Blue-Eyes White Dragons" to create "Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon". However, his combo is destroyed with an impenetrable wall of "Kuriboh", "Mammoth Graveyard", "Living Arrow", and "Polymerization". Kaiba threatens he'll jump off the tower if he should lose (in the dub, Kaiba says the attack of Yugi's monster might knock him off the edge), so for fear seeing Kaiba hurt Yugi overcomes his other self (Yami) and surrenders the Duel. KAIBA'S TOTAL: 10, YUGI'S TOTAL: 5.

Yugi is so shaken up by this experience that he breaks down in tears, vowing never to Duel again. He fears his other self could cause someone serious harm.

In the Anime, to get Yugi back into the finals Tea decides to Duel Mai Valentine (who has 16 Star Chips). Initially, Mai offers her 6 surplus Star Chips in order to repay Yugi back for his Duel with PaniK but Yugi, who is still shaken up, refuses. Although Mai could have beaten Tea with the card "Harpie's Feather Duster", she instead forfeits in order to help Yugi (without admitting it). Inspired by Téa's dedication, Yugi receives the boost he needs to galvanize himself for the finals. YUGI'S TOTAL: 10.

  • In the manga, Mai simply gives the star chips to Yugi, rather than Dueling Téa for them.
  • Before the finals, Pegasus introduces Kaiba to the finalists and the two Duel. If Pegasus wins, he will take Kaiba's soul; if Kaiba wins, Mokuba's soul will be restored.
  • Kaiba's monsters are far stronger but Pegasus can see his opponent's cards and predict his strategies using the Millennium Eye.
  • Pegasus uses Continuous Spell Card "Toon World", which transforms all his monsters into toons which cannot be destroyed. Kaiba attempts to use the "Crush Card" combo that he used against Yugi but Pegasusreads his mind and prevents the strategy from working.
  • In the end, Pegasus uses "Doppleganger" to copy Kaiba's "Crush Card" and wins the Duel.
  • After his victory, Pegasus uses his Millennium Eye to steal Kaiba's soul. Seeing this and knowing it has happened because Kaiba was trying to save his little brother, Yugi starts to cry and demands to know why Pegasus is toying with people.
  • Seconds later, Yugi's Millennium Puzzle activates and Yugi's "other self" emerges for the first time since his Duel with Kaiba which nearly ended in tragedy. Yami Yugi vows to defeat Pegasus once and for all but he will first have to get through the remaining rounds of the tournament.
  • In the dub, Yugi tries to hold back Yami Yugi's Dueling strength because of his willingness to beat Kaiba even if it meant his death. However, in the manga and Japanese version of the anime, Yami Yugi is concentrating on the coming Duel with Pegasus and not on the Duel with Mai.
  • In both cases this leads to Yugi making mistakes during the Duel. Because of these mistakes, Mai gets a huge advantage, with her "Harpie Lady Sisters" and "Harpie's Pet Dragon" (2000 ATK and an additional 300 for each Harpie on the field) while Yugi fields only "Kuriboh", "Gaia The Fierce Knight", and "Swords of Revealing Light". On the last turn however, Yugi gets "Black Luster Ritual" to Summon "Black Luster Soldier" and destroys Mai's "Harpie's Pet Dragon". Being down on morale and seeing she has no monsters to counter, Mai forfeits the Duel.
  • Bandit Keith steals Joey's Playoff Entry card, nearly causing Joey to be disqualified. However, Mai gives Joey her entry card, allowing him to participate.
  • Keith uses Machine cards, which are very powerful. Joey uses his Trap Cards to hold off the machines, and then copies Keith's "Magic Metal Force" to make his "Red-Eyes Black Dragon" a machine itself with an added 400 ATK. Furthermore, Joey uses "Dragon Nails" to power up his Red-Eyes even more to avoid being destroyed by Keith's "Blast Sphere".
  • Keith uses "Slot Machine", but cheats by putting two Spell Cards up his sleeve, each being able to power up "Slot Machine" by 700.
  • On the last turn, Keith destroys Joey's dragon and attacks it with "Slot Machine", but Joey activates "Graverobber" to grab Keith's "Time Machine", returning his monster to the way it was a turn before. Joey attacks "Slot Machine" and wins the Duel.
  • Pegasus then confronts Keith and says that he saw his cheating, whereupon Keith tries to get the prize money by force. In the anime, Pegasus drops Keith down a trap door, and Keith eventually reappears prior to Battle City under the mind control of Marik Ishtar. In the manga, Pegasus inflicts a penalty game on Keith, causing his apparent death.
  • Last, is the match to determine who will Duel Pegasus. This Duel exists only in the anime. In the manga, Pegasus instantly declared Yugi the winner.
  • The Duel turns out a rather even battle, with Joey seemingly gaining a good lead about mid-way through. He copies Yugi's "Summoned Skull" and fuses it with "Red-Eyes Black Dragon" to create "Black Skull Dragon".
  • However, Yugi destroys it with the combo "Dark Magician", "Spellbinding Circle", and "Book of Secret Arts", and ultimately Joey's lead is completely lost due to a miscalculation on his part. As he plays the "Time Wizard"-"Baby Dragon" combo to Summon "Thousand Dragon", his Time Wizard's magic turns Yugi's "Dark Magician" into "Dark Sage", which allows Yugi to play a Spell Card every turn (even during an opponent's turn and even if the Spell Card is not set).
  • Exploiting this, Yugi activates "Makiu, the Magical Mist" to counter Joey's attack, then plays "Monster Reborn" to bring back Joey's "Black Skull Dragon". After telling Joey this move is the toughest he is about to make, Yugi orders his monster to attack him and wins the Duel.
  • Pegasus applies the same strategy to Yugi as he did to Kaiba. He's able to play "Toon World", making all his monsters invincible. Pegasus saw every one of Yugi's strategies, and counters every one of them. However, Yugi then uses mind shuffle. Yugi and Dark Yugi keep changing places, and Pegasus cannot see the mind of the other. Therefore, he does not know what Yugi plans.
  • In the dub, Pegasus then sends the Duel into the Shadow Realm, where his illusion monsters come into play. In the manga and Japanese anime, Pegasus does not use the Shadow Realm as the Shadow Realm does not exist in either of those versions. In either version, the Duel still turns into a shadow game where Summoning monsters creates a massive strain on the Duelist's mind if they don't have the strength. Dark Yugi had the strength to work through it, but Yugi didn't, which Pegasus knew, resulting in his near death.
  • Yugi's friends are able to block Pegasus from reading Dark Yugi's mind, so his plan to be able to read his mind still doesn't work. Ultimately, Yugi wins.
  • In the end of it all, Pegasus's Millennium Eye gets stolen by Dark Bakura, and the souls of Mokuba Kaiba, Seto Kaiba and Solomon Muto are restored. Yugi gives Joey the money for Serenity's eye surgery.

Dark Side of Dimensions[]

At the KaibaCorp space station, Seto Kaiba observes a virtual reconstruction of the Millennium Puzzle.

In Kul Elna, the Shrine of the Underworld is excavated by KaibaCorp, with Mani, among the workers. One of the other workers takes out a device, displaying an image of the Millennium Puzzle being worn by Yugi Muto, so that he knows what it is they are looking for. He exits the shrine just as a helicopter, carrying Mokuba Kaiba flies past.

At Kame Game, Yugi is leaving to go to school, but is stopped by Solomon Muto, who comments on Téa Gardner. Yugi leaves and at a flight of stairs, meets Téa, who greets him with a shoulder bump.

Joey Wheeler hurriedly cycles to school. His carelessness causes him to get soaked by Sanpei emptying a bucket of water and knock over a policeman. Yugi and Téa arrive at school, where they spot Ryo Bakura, who is being obsessed over by a group of girls. Joey catches up with Tristan Taylor and with one minute before the school gate closes, Tristan gets onto the back of Joey's bike. The two speed downhill and get inside the gate, just as Mr. Karita shuts it.

At lunchtime on the roof of the school, Yugi and his friends discuss their futures. Téa has been accepted for a study abroad program and wishes to become a professional dancer. Tristan is unhappy with the job he has lined up working in his father's factory. Joey would like to become a professional Duelist and claims the is no one out there who can stop him, but Tristan points that their math teacher can, having confiscated Joey's Duel Disk for polishing it in class. Téa encourages Yugi to tell the group his plan. He reckons he will stay working in Kame Game, helping his grandfather, but also intends to design on his own games, hoping that one day he will invent one that they can all play together. Joey proposes a pact that they all meet up to play Yugi's game, after it makes it big. Yugi is worried that they're getting overly faithful of his success, but Téa assures him he can do it.

When Yugi and his friends return to class, they spot a new student. They think that they remember him, but struggle to think of his name, before Tristan finally says that it is Aigami.

After school, Yugi is walking with Joey and Téa. Joey has received back his Duel Disk. As Yugi looks through his Deck, he thinks of Atem and pauses. Joey asks him what is wrong and although Yugi insists it is nothing, Joey realizes he is thinking of Atem and say that it is impossible to forget him. Yugi reflects on the Ceremonial Battle, remembering himself sealing "Monster Reborn" in "Gold Sarcophagus", Atem walking through the Doorway to the Underworld and the Millennium Items falling into the depths of the Earth.

Joey notices Aigami, being harassed by Scud and his gang, with Scud commenting on Aigami's cute face and making provocative remarks. Joey jumps down from the bridge and approaches the group. Scud and his companions let the matter drop for the time being and leave Aigami alone, but Scud instructs Aigami to meet him at the KaibaCorp construction site later and threatens him, should he not show up. Aigami thanks Joey, Téa and Yugi insists that he is fine, before leaving.

Later at the construction site, Scud and his gang have a video camera to record Aigami. They threaten him with various weapons and say that today's lesson is "pain". Aigami is silent at first, but laughs and asks the gang how long he has been in their memories and if they are aware that he has altered them. He produces the Quantum Cube and the lights go out. A group of children with glowing eyes appear and surround the gang. The gangsters start to glow and a symbol appears on Aigami's forehead. Scud and his gang are disintegrated and drop their camera. Aigami walks away, but returns to collect the camera.

At a church-like setting, Yami Yugi dressed as he was, while sharing Yugi's body and has two additional gold armbands. He walks through a set of doors, where he faces Kaiba. The two engage in a Duel, which ultimately ends in Kaiba's victory.

The Duel is revealed to have taken place in a virtual reality, while Kaiba is in his space station. One of Kaiba's scientists hands him a bottle of water and comments on how well the system is performing, but Kaiba is not happy. He deems the Duel imperfect, because despite the accuracy and fine-tuning of his recreation of Atem, it was not the real thing. In frustration, he throws the bottle on to the ground. Mokuba contacted the space station and informed Kaiba that they had found the pieces of the Millennium Puzzle at the excavation.

At a mall, Yugi, Téa, Tristan and Bakura are sitting at Devlin's cafe, being served by Duke Devlin, Yugi reads news of Scud and his gang's disappearance. He, Téa and Duke note that it is only one of many cases of people mysteriously disappearing recently. Bakura mentions how the person responsible could be watching them, but Anzu accredited that paranoia to the Bakura fanclub, who were spying on him from behind a pillar. Nearby, Joey is wearing a dog costume, walking around, handing out balloons. Tristan repairs Joey's Duel Disk at the table, which Duke remarks is brave of him, as he could get blamed for breaking it.

Aigami teleports to the mall, where he stands on a higher level and watches over Yugi and his friends. He reflects on a time he was in Prana Realm, a plateau above the clouds. There were seven pillars on the plateau, each depicting a Millennium Item. As Aigami stands before one of the pillars, children appear and disappear, while he and Sera remain constantly present.

Aigami reflects further back to when he and Sera were alone and thirsty in Egypt. Sera refers to Aigami as "Diva", as she gives him a cup of water. Aigami decides to leave the plateau and is followed by some of the others, including Mani.

In the present, Mani calls Aigami a few times, at the mall, before Aigami takes notice. He tries to talk him out of a revenge he knows he is considering, stating it not the target's fault or what their mentor would have wanted. He then informs him that Kaiba found the Millennium Puzzle, prompting Aigami to teleport away.

Kaiba suddenly appears on screens across the mall and introduces his new Duel Disk, which he says will be demonstrated in an exhibition Duel at Kaiba Land. Joey groans that he will not be able to afford the new Duel Disk and Tristan suggests that he will need to get another part-time job. Annoyed, Joey accuses Tristan of breaking his Duel Disk, despite having asked him to fix it, and insists that Tristan now owes him for it. The two get into a fight and their antics cause a girl to lose a balloon that Joey handed out. Téa tries to break them up, but Joey eats her ice cream, while continuing to fight. Joey's boss, Mr. Clown, sees this and lectures Joey on the importance of his job.

In Kul Elna, Mokuba and Roland are waiting for Kaiba, who soon arrives in his Blue-Eyes White Dragon jet. The group entered the Shrine of the Underworld and Kaiba notes the location of the Ceremonial Battle. He and Mokuba walk towards the disassembled Millennium Puzzle, whose pieces are being scanned by a computer. Mokuba asks how Kaiba plans on reconstructing the puzzle, when it took Yugi eight years to do so and Kaiba makes a reply about Yugi being a child, when he did it.

Kaiba is informed that it takes 30 minutes to disable the security system for the Millennium Puzzle's lock. To pass the time Kaiba, says he shall have a Duel and aware of Aigami's presence among the crowd, Kaiba calls him out, using the name, "Diva". Aigami is impressed that Kaiba he knew his real name and Kaiba asks how he is in Egypt, having been in Domino City just minutes ago, while showing footage of him.

One of the KaibaCorp men threatens Aigami with a gun. An act, which is mocked by Aigami, before using the Quantum Cube to make the man disappear. After witnessing this, group of workers run away, leaving just Kaiba, Mokuba, Aigami, Mani and some KaibaCorp employees.

Aigami attempts to use his cube on Kaiba, but Kaiba readies his Duel Disk, which counters the effect of the cube. Kaiba yells, asking if Aigami thinks he can defeat him with his own power. Aigami instead challenges Kaiba to a Duel, which he accepts and the cube transforms into a Duel Disk.

Kaiba and Aigami Duel using the Dimension Area ruleset. Kaiba is outperformed at first, but resolves that he cannot lose, since he must face "Yugi", before correcting himself and saying "Atem". Kaiba slams his hand into the ground and then draws "Obelisk the Tormentor". He Summons it, which Aigami thought would be impossible, since "Obelisk" was one of the pharaoh's monsters. Kaiba sacrificed two of his monsters to use the effect of "Obelisk", leaving Aigami with 1000 Life Points.

The Duel is interrupted, as the computer finishes scanning the pieces of the Millennium Puzzle. Mokuba then hooks the case containing the puzzle to the KaibaCorp helicopter and flies away, taunting Aigami. However Aigami teleports up onto the case and with a glowing purple hand, reaches through the glass. Mokuba sees what Aigami is doing and headbutts him, knocking him off the case. Kaiba concludes that he has what he needs and gets back into his jet to leave.

Mani notices the pit that the puzzle had been extracted from is glowing, so he teleports into it and finds the Millennium Ring.

Joey wakes up on the top of a flying KaibaCorp blimp, where Kaiba is patronizingly towering over him. He taunts him about the new Duel Disk, saying that a commoner (凡骨 bonkotsu) like him will never be able to afford it and teasingly asks if he wants it. Joey falls off the blimp, but wakes from his dream, during the graduation rehearsal at school, falling out of his chair.

On the stage, Yugi practices his speech, while Aigami stands at the back of the hall, only visible to Sera, who has just arrived. She refers to Aigami as "brother" and asks if he fought Kaiba. Aigami hands her a piece, he managed to swipe from the Millennium Puzzle, and instructs her to keep it safe. He comments on the resurrection of the pharaoh, but Sera is not too enthusiastic. She disappears, leaving Aigami to approach Yugi and his friends, expressing interest in getting to know them better.

The group go bowling with Aigami and then head to a fast-food restaurant. The group tell Aigami stories about their adventures, Joey shows his Deck to Aigami and praises Yugi's Dueling skills. Aigami shows interest in Dueling Yugi, but Joey says that he will have to get through him first, so Yugi invites them to have a Duel tournament at his house.

Kaiba enters an elevator, which takes him to the space station. He takes the Millennium Puzzle pieces to a small room and puts them on a floor, where a computer begins to put the pieces together. It provides a six-hour estimate for completion and Kaiba is thinking to himself "Wait for me... Yugi".

Aigami, Bakura and Joey are on their way to visit Yugi, for the friendly tournament. Aigami shows Joey and Bakura his Quantum Cube, which he says is a Deck case, which was given to him by someone important to him. Bakura mentions having once had an item that his father brought back from Egypt and Aigami replies that he would like to hear more of this story.

At Kame Game, Yugi is preparing his Deck for the Duel tournament, when Sera enters the store. She notices the Millennium Puzzle box, which Yugi had been keeping his cards in and comments that is pretty. Yugi tidies it away and informs her that it is not for sale.

Sera shows him the Prana Realm with the seven pillars and then takes him back to the store. She has now disappeared, but Yugi opens the puzzle box and finds the piece of the Millennium Puzzle that Aigami had given to Sera.

At the space station, the computer has almost finished reassembling the Millennium Puzzle, but reports that two pieces are missing. At first, Kaiba says that this is impossible, but then realizes that Aigami must have taken them when he put his hand through the glass.

Bakura talks about how he stowed away in the cargo of a ship in Egypt when he was young, while his father searched for the Millennium Ring, but he stops talking, unsure why he is sharing this information. Aigami uses his powers on Bakura, who cries out that he does not want to remember. A group of Plana children appear and Joey tries to get himself and Bakura to leave. Aigami sends Joey to another dimension, where he finds himself in a street, with other people walking past him. Aigami explains that this world is being sustained by Joey's memories, and that as soon as Joey forgets something it will disappear. Joey seems to take advantage of this and recreates a street he rides his bicycle down at the beginning of the movie, complete with Sanpei splashing a bucket of water on him like before. However, the people he recreated pay no attention to him. Aigami asks if Joey really thinks he can win a battle of wits with him, and decides to start erasing Joey's memories, causing the world to rapidly dissolve around him.

While Yugi is wondering where everyone is, Tristan arrives and informs him that he has found Joey's bicycle and Duel Disk abandoned, something Joey would never do. He takes Yugi on his motorbike to search for Joey and they meet with Téa.

Aigami approaches Bakura, who is cringed on the ground, in a panic. Aigami laughs and asks if he does not remember. He conjures a flashback, where Shadi Shin, is with a group of children including Aigami, Sera and Mani. The Tablet of the Pharaoh's Memories is nearby, with the Millennium Ring and Scales inside it. Shadi explains that three of the Millennium Items are weak to evil, three represent justice and that the Millennium Puzzle contains both justice and evil. He says to Aigami that he is on the same level as the person destined to solve the Millennium Puzzle.

Shadi states that when the seven Millennium Items are gathered the door to a better world will open and that the children may travel there, because they have been chosen. The young Aigami thinks that he wants to go to that world and says that he is not afraid of anything, because of his friends and family, but Shadi replies that it is his fear.

Bakura's father appears and is excited to see the Millennium Ring, having spent his life searching for it. He offers Shadi a bag of money for the item. Shadi explains that the item is not for sale, but that he can put it on, so he can be testedto see if he is worthy. Bakura's father puts the ring on, but after a few seconds, he is thrown across the room, with the ring detaching from him. Bakura's father is attacked by shadows in the shape of snakes, prompting the young Ryo Bakura to emerge from his hiding place to help him. He runs to his father, who begs him to get the ring. Bakura picks it up and a purple light is emitted.

Yami Bakura is awakened, while the Millennium Ring fuses into Bakura's body, disappearing under his skin. Yami Bakura thanks Shadi for bringing him a nice landlord and proceeds to attack and fatally wound Shadi. The children run to Shadi, who gives the Quantum Cube to Aigami, just before dying. Yami Bakura continues to attack the children, with Aigami and Sera managing to survive.

In the present, Bakura is shocked by what he has seen. He weeps and claims that it was all the Millennium Ring, but apologizes for taking away someone important to Aigami. Mani arrives with the Millennium Ring, now warped by its evil. He attempts to kill Bakura, before regaining control of himself. He throws Bakura to one side and tells Aigami to run. Bakura is transported to one dimension. Aigami and Mani go to another, where Mani dies and disappears. Aigami considers taking the Millennium Ring, but stops when he hears Yugi calling for Joey.

At Domino City Plaza, Aigami appears before Yugi and admits that he is a Prana, whose real name is Diva. He explains that the "Aigami" Yugi knew was merely an illusion, implanted in his memory.

Inside, the dissolving dimension, Joey falls and his body begins to fade away with the rest of the world. However there is a flash of light and Joey sees Atem. Joey then finds himself back in his own world, where Yugi, Téa and Tristan and relieved to find him, but still worried about Bakura. Aigami then disappears, calling Yugi and his friends interesting. Joey begins to tell Yugi, about him seeing Atem, but stops himself and says it is nothing, before rushing to help find Bakura.

While Aigami is on the roof of a building, he is suddenly abducted and blindfolded by a group of men from KaibaCorp. He is brought before Kaiba, who demands the pieces of the puzzle. After refusing to hand them over, he is taken to Kaiba Land.

During his search for Bakura, Yugi stops at a road crossing just as the lights change. He takes a moment to catch his breath and notices that the traffic is stopped, when it should be moving. Looking into the intersection, he sees that Kaiba is the source of the disruption. Yugi asks him what he is doing there and Kaiba declares that Yugi is to take part in the exhibition Duel at Kaiba Land, no excuses. He shows Yugi the near-reassembled Millennium Puzzle and expresses his belief that Yugi and Aigami have the two missing pieces. Before leaving on his helicopter, he explains that his goal is to face "the other Yugi" and that Yugi alone is of little interest to him.

Yugi sees that the Millennium Puzzle box with his piece is in the road and proceeds to collect it just as traffic begins to move. He almost gets hit by a truck, but is saved by Sera, who teleports him to safety. Yugi thanks her and she says it is up to him to complete the Puzzle or not once again. She also requests that Yugi save her elder brother.

Aigami dreams of himself and Sera, back in Egypt, thirsty and begging people, who regard them as a nuisance. He wakes up tied to a chair in a glass prison, with Mokuba on the other side of the glass. Kaiba monitors their interaction externally. Mokuba taunts Aigami, who affirms that Kaiba will never get both pieces. However Mokuba claims to already know where the other piece is and shows him pictures of Sera. At the Kaiba Land stadium, which boosts a high attendance, Kaiba Summons "Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon" and has it attack Solid Vision fighter jets. He gives a speech to the audience about Dueling and his new Duel Disk. Among those in attendance are Weevil Underwood and Rex Raptor. Yugi and Aigami are introduced and Kaiba announces that he will be Dueling each of them for their pieces of the Millennium Puzzle.

Sera appears before Aigami and apologizes, but maintains that she made the right decision in giving her puzzle piece to Yugi. Aigami is relieved to see that she is okay.

Yugi gets annoyed and demands that he be the one to Duel Aigami. Since Aigami had hurt Yugi's friends and caused Bakura's disappearance, Yugi considers this to be his battle. Kaiba allows for it and throws Yugi a new Duel Disk.

Yugi and Aigami begin to Duel. After reducing Yugi to just a few Life Points, Aigami claims he is not doing anything wrong; he just wishes to go the new dimension and leave the current corrupt world behind. He invites Yugi to join him, but Yugi refuses to give up on the current world and its future.

Aigami reflects on his youth, when he was living with an abusive man, who would get children to steal for him. The man would neglect the children and use the stolen money to take care on himself. Shadi appeared before them and immobilized the man. He approached Aigami and pushed against his forehead, causing a gold symbol to momentarily appear. When Sera asked what he did to her brother, Shadi assured her that he was safe. He then proceeded to perform the same action on the other children. Finally, he unfroze the man and used the Quantum Cube to put an end to him.

In the present, Yugi turns the Duel in his favor and defeats Aigami, reiterating that he believes in the future. Aigami disappears after the Duel. While Joey, Téa and Tristan celebrate Yugi's victory, a light appears in the audience, as Bakura is brought back to their world.

Kaiba advances to the field to Duel Yugi for the two pieces. He states that his goal is to bring back "the other Yugi," whom he has unfinished business with. He does not expect the Duel to take long, as he is only Dueling the regular Yugi. Kaiba places the Millennium Puzzle in the center of the field, where it floats in a beam of light. Yugi tries to tell Kaiba that Atem is gone, but he pays no attention and they begin their Duel. A few turns in, Yugi insists that the Duel is pointless and demonstrates by inserting the last two pieces into the Millennium Puzzle. Nothing happens, much to Kaiba's surprise.

Aigami is back in the dimension where Mani had died and sees the Millennium Ring again. Without touching it, he becomes engulfed in its evil and screams for Sera to save him.

Yugi explains to Kaiba that nothing happened because Atem is no longer inside the Puzzle. Kaiba is furious and accuses Yugi of deceiving him. The two continue to Duel and Yugi eventually attacks Kaiba, who had 2500 Life Points, with "Dark Magician", which had 2500 ATK. Kaiba's Life Points decrease, but he smirks as the counter suddenly stops at 100. The power at the stadium is shut down, prematurely ending the Duel.

People in the audience scream as they suddenly disappear in a wave of darkness. Aigami, now influenced by the evil of the Millennium Ring as Dark Diva, appears and Yugi and Kaiba team up to Duel him.

The Duel is a Shadow Game, where players' bodies fade away as they lose Life Points. Dark Diva reaches a point where he can defeat one of his opponents and chooses Yugi. However Kaiba redirects the attack to himself and hands Yugi the Millennium Puzzle, before disappearing, demanding that Yugi "call him now". Yugi puts on the puzzle and continues the Duel. Towards the end, Yugi's body reaches its limits and he finds himself incapable of drawing his next card. He apologizes to everyone and begins to black out, but is suddenly engulfed in a beam of golden light. Atem, dressed in the Domino High School uniform, appears. Without speaking, Atem Summons "Palladium Oracle Mahad", who kneels before him. "Mahad" then defeats Diva, whose body reverts to normal, before disappearing.

Gold light moves throughout the stadium and other people whose bodies had faded away reappear. Yugi and Atem split into separate bodies and stand facing each other. After a moment of silence, Yugi nods and Atem presses on the Millennium Puzzle, making it and himself disappear. Mani is revived and is now with Aigami, Sera, and the other children. Joey, Téa, Tristan and Bakura congratulate Yugi, who informs them that he saw Atem. Joey mentions seeing him earlier too and the group is approached by Kaiba, who is interested in the fact that they saw Atem. Kaiba acknowledges Yugi as a competent Duelist and Yugi thanks him for believing in him. Kaiba gives him a smile and parts ways.

Aigami wakes up in the Plana realm, where Mani informs him that since the Pharaoh had returned their power was now gone, but comments that it was for the best.

During the graduation ceremony, Yugi reads his speech, causing Téa to tear up and Joey and Tristan to cry uncontrollably. In Egypt, Aigami and Sera part ways from Mani, on good terms. At the airport, Téa boards a plane and her friends all see her off.

On the KaibaCorp space station, Kaiba is in a pod, on a call with Mokuba, who is warning him that what he is attempting is dangerous. Mokuba says that the item in question has not been fully tested and the safety precautions have not been ensured. Kaiba says not to worry and despite Mokuba begging him otherwise, continues with his plan and says that Mokuba is in charge. He activates the Quantum Cube, which is next to him, causing the space station to be covered in gold light, as he shoots down the elevator shaft that connects the station to Earth.

Kaiba appears in a desert, presumably having traveled to the afterlife, and walks to the top of a hill, overlooking a city containing Atem's palace. Kaiba advances to the throne room where Atem is sitting, wearing the Millennium Puzzle. Kaiba activates his Duel Disk. Atem stands up, faces him, and confidently smiles.
