Celena Butterfly was the 27th Queen of the Butterfly Queendom. Celena is best known for her incredible with folk tales telling she could disarm any army with just a glance. However, Celena is also more so known for her shyness.
Celena Rosanna Vela Patricia Butterfly was born on the 25th of Dragonette, 708 years after Mewnipendence to Queen Sideria Butterfly and King Consort Patrick Flowers. Celena possessed pink-salmon hair, purple eyes, and purple waning moons on her cheeks. When talking about Celena most think of her stunning beauty with stories and songs saying she could disarm an army with just one glance. Since her birth, Sideria used to say she was as or more beautiful as herself. Celena was described as a cheerful and playful girl, superstitious, curious, and receptive, with a passion for flowers, animals, the beach, astrology, pudding, tarot, and especially arts, which she got from her grandmother Queen Hesperia Butterfly, who she was close with. The reports of how she is best seen today as a shy and secluded girl began to appear 716 years after Mewnipendence, after the birth of her brothers, the twins Alfelio and Perielio, and Queen Sideria’s decision to focus on Celena’s raising and and preparation for the throne. The majority agree that this added pressure around future responsibility that discouraged the princess outgoing personality, shrinking her into the introverted person she is known as today. This started when she was 8. When she turned 10 718 years after Mewnipendence, she received her Lonely Star Ball. The princess stated during that ball she finally felt understood with the attention of Princess Giovanni Florent, Endys Mukwald, both the sons of her Uncles, and Prince Jack Pumpkin. That night also started a rivalry between the three princes to gain Celena’s attention, via small gestures and her company at events. Also on her 10th birthday she received duskenpome seeds, native in the Fahrmann Kingdom, given by King Adonis Silvan, Celena used these seeds to plant a tree with her grandmother Hesperia in the same spot where her husband sang to her many years ago. She also received an alchemy glassware kit, given by Bran Flamel, who had fallen in love with the princess the first time he spoke to her. With the alchemy kit she received she spent more time in recluse and alone, though she showed some extroversion in her family. However everything changed with the death of her grandmother Hesperia and the birth of her youngest sister, Crepuscula. Officially the events that occurred are unknown however Glossaryck provides some closure. As the days of the birth of Crepuscula approached, Queen Sideria gathered the royal family. Celena was playing a hide and seek game with her cousins and siblings. She locked herself in a rarely used closet hoping no one would find her. Then the door opened and her Uncle Space and Aunt Fortuna entered. There’s no detail about what Celena saw. An hour after they left the room Celena finally did. She went to sit alone under the Duskenpome tree until her grandmother Hesperia came. Celena’s scared and frightened expression, made Hesperia worried and questioned her. After much insistence she told her grandmother what she saw. Celena reports that her or the other children were not there, but the rest of the royal family was gathered by Hesperia. Reports that screams and arguments were heard. When news of her grandmother's death reached her she felt guilty that the last time she saw her grandmother was with fury and anger in her eyes. After that day Celena became truly a recluse. Changing how she talked, dressed, and walked. Her father Patrick however said “If she is trying to go unnoticed, she is only managing to attract more attention.” The change in appearance caused her to attract more attention from princes and lords. 722 years after Mewnipendence, Celena turned 14 and inherited the Royal Magic Wand, which transformed into a purple fan with lime crescent moons. She used it to cover her face that was already partially covered by her hair. According to her sister Princess Penumbra the wand matched her desire to cover her face from all the guests. Celena had to wear an outfit to that ceremony that, according to her mother, “Didn’t look like a curtain” after losing a bet against her mother. After getting tired of dancing she left the feast to retire to her room, however she bumped into a boy who she described as “A commoner boy lost in ragged clothing.” Celena would find hours later the boy was the son of Lord Sycamore Forest, Elm Forest, who she apologized for treating him like a lowborn by dancing with him. When she finally arrived back to her room, she found Glossaryck with the book of spells for a first introductory meeting. A few minutes into the conversation, Glossaryck interrupted her and said “Stop. Am i the only one to see through this performance? Is it possible that so many can be so stupid for so long.” For a second, Celena froze, but then she straightened her spine and lowered her fan, revealing the girl who she was still from all those years ago, a mature, clever girl. She answered him with a smile as the fan feature of
the wand disappeared “sometimes i have trouble believing in myself.” When Glossaryck asked why, Celena told him that being shy and quiet allowed her to see people's true intentions, since many see shy people as gullible and easily manipulated. As for her magical studies, Celena stood out from her ancestors for having a singular interest in the arts of potions, which its practice wasn’t the safest, since sounds of explosions were commonly heard coming from her room. Despite the princess’s interest in the use of magic applications via herbs, mainly provided by Elm, who was a good friend of the princess, she didn’t stop studying and creating spells with the wand. One of these was an unnamed spell, named the fan spell by Queen Moon. that would fan smoke and other types of gasses away. She also created the potions Verosoro, a potion of truth, and Charmosa, a potion for glamor, created from several attempts to make a love potion. She used the potions as perfumes for those who get close to her. She wanted to create a love potion not only out of curoristy but also to get one of the three princes, who she had some affection for. However despite many attempts she wouldn't accept the advances from the princes. This gave up the chance of having a relationship with any of them. 725 years after Mewnipendence Celena and Elm began a relationship at the Harvest Moon Festival. The story between these two begins on Celena’s birthday. On that night Elm moved away from Celena gradually, for unknown reasons. Celena started to deeply miss the boy. After the three princes fought each other for her and ending the chances of them towards her, Celena started to look for a way to reconnect to Elm. She even became interested in the Broken Friendship Candle superstition. After many attempts and prayers, and some say a letter sprayed in the glamour potion, Elm and Celena finally met, under the Duskenpome tree, while a council meeting was taking place. Wanting to understand why Elm left, Celena used the fan spell and spraying herself with the potion of truth. However this potion of truth made Elm kiss her before confessing that he moved on because he couldn’t bear to see her with the three princes. Despite her fright at the kiss, she spent two weeks pondering and decided to start a relationship. Regarding her relationship with her siblings, it hadn’t developed the best over the years. Perielio and Alfelio, constantly playing pranks on Celena, putting her in embarrassing public situations. However Celena only considered the triplets mean. Umbra, who thought she would be better as the queen. Penumbra, who envied Celena’s beauty and constantly belittled her. The only one Celena had no problem with was her youngest sister, Crepuscula. Many would say the sibling problems were common in all families, however such disagreements and quarrels almost resulted in an irreversible tragedy. 726 years after Mewnipendence, Celena was fiddling with her potions as she did on a daily basis a loud explosion was heard. Celena spent a week in bed, breathing using inhalers, and having to cut her hair. Many believed that this was an accident, however, after three days, Princesses Antumbra and Prince Alfelio confessed to Queen Sideria that they had sabotaged Celena’s flasks and tubes the night before the explosion. According to both of them the idea was Penumbra’s, but behind that was the head of Umbra, who was very jealous and wanted to become queen, believing Celena wasn’t suited for such a position of power. Furious and shocked by the revelation, Queen Sideria had a meeting with all of her children which was discussed in the last story. Sideria forced Celena to make a decision about Elm Forest, within a year, since many marriage proposals had been set aside by Sideria out of respect for her daughter's freedom. However the recent events made Sideria tighten the reins on her children. Celena did not mind the time limit and announced she would marry Elm. When her mother informed her she would become queen when she married, Celena worked to postpone the marriage until the situation with the Septarian attacks was resolved, or at least minimized. During that period, Celena made many discoveries and academic advances. The ones that stand out are the Curse of the Curious, which is related to an alleged second form of the wand; Feromonia, the passion potion; an antidote to Yada Yada Berries; the mastering of the Mind Eraser Finger Pew spell; the creation of the Padlock Spells; and the rediscovery of an old portable vault from the times of the Ancient Mewnian Empire, called the cryptex, aftering seeing a illustration of the mechanism in an old book in the pre-kingdom section of the Firefly Library. She used this to keep things she saw as secrets such as recipes and letters, some believe she kept a diary whose pages were kept in separate cryptexes. Almost all cryptex are locked to this day.
Reign as Queen[]
Celena and Elm's wedding took place 732 years after Mewnipendence and she was crowned queen at the age of 24. During that period there were very few monster attacks. However the coronation took place a month later. She was addressed and treated as a monarch however her mother played the role still of queen at meetings. The three princes still flirted with Celena even after she was married. At the ceremony all her siblings returned. Umbra left for the Silvan Kingdom, who she wouldn’t see for years. Antumbra vowed to serve Celena faithfully upon her return. Penumbra left overnight without a word to her sister. Elm and Celena honeymooned in the Paradisa Dimension. As for her reign, historians say
under her it was a hesitant and slightly anarchic government. Crediting the good to her mother who was still partially reigning. However to what extent is unknown. The rule of Celena brought the Butterfly Kingdom a very important virtue, stability. Celena managed to keep the Kingdom cohesive during a turbulent time. She managed the day to day court life, while many underestimated her ability and ability to produce heirs. A year after her marriage Queen Celena announced she was pregnant. 734 year after Mewnipendence, Celena gave birth to her heir Diana Butterfly, in honor of one of the Mewni moons. 735 years after Mewnipendence she gave birth to her second daughter, Princess Alva, then Prince Astro was born 737 years after Mewnipendence. Three years later, 740 years after Mewnipendence, Prince Blackhole was
born. 741 years after Mewnipendence Princess Lumia, then finally 745 years after Mewnipendence to Princess Lumia. 746 years after Mewnipendence, after 10 years the most important project of Celena’s reign was completed, The Moon Canal. One of the most significant changes to the kingdom. An artificial waterway connecting the capital to the Florent Sea at Waterfolk Sea. This project was Celena’s effort to not only increase economic trade between the kingdom and the western insular islands and increase the kingdom's trade balance, but also to increase her personal
access to exotic products and ingredients for her studies. 748 years after Mewnipendence, Princess Diana returned home after 6 years of living in the Silvan Kingdom, and less than a month later Celena gave possession of the Royal Magic Wand to her. Diana didn’t come alone, bringing the son of her ambassador, or banned sister Umbra, Tileford Butterfly. The same
year, during a short few weeks, King-Father Patrick died after he fell from his warnicorn and hit his head on a rock, and her sister Dame Antumbra was murdered by a septarian attack. 750 years after Mewnipendence Diana and Tileford came to express their relationship to The Queen, who was surprised but understanding. However she was only pretending because she already knew the truth. Diana and Tileford were married 756 years after Mewnipendence, this event marked the reunion of Celena and Umbra. This also left a way for the unprecedented decision made by Celena, choosing to remain queen, allowing her daughter to remain free from the duties of queen. This way Diana remained the royal princess who was married the longest before ascending to the throne, and only 10 years later 766 years after Mewnipendence. Between the birth of Princess Sky Butterfly, the new heir and Princess Etheria II. After Abdicating the crown at the age of 57 and after 34 years as queen.
Post Queenhood[]
Celena and Elm spent most time leisure traveling between the Western Island Kingdoms and the different dimensions. After this however Celena was hit by a roller coaster of births and deaths. Umbra’s death and Prince Quasar's birth 768 years after Mewnipendence, Crepuscula’s death 769 years after Mewnipendence, and Prince Perielio’s death and Princess Comet birth 770 years after Mewnipendence. On Princess Sky’s 5th birthday she posed with her mother, Sideria, her daughter, Diana, and her granddaughter Sky, for the painting "leaves of a clover". 771 years after Mewnipendence, Celena passed away at the age of 62 due to bronchitis caused by years of alchemical experience. Celena was buried in the crypts of Butterfly Castle.
