Anodites are a free-spirited race of humanoid energy beings from the planet Anodyne. Mature Anodites are pure energy and draw life from the mana around them.
Appearance[]
In Alien Force and Ultimate Alien, the body of an Anodite is a dark purple, humanoid-shaped construct of pure mana. From their heads radiate streams of glowing bright pink energy which resemble hair. They do not have any externally visible ears, nose or lips, nor do they wear any clothing.
In Omniverse, their "hair" is no longer tentacle shaped and can be different shapes/styles. Their skin is now a light matte purple color. Their face is now more human-like, with ears, a nose and lips. They are now depicted in attire.
Reproduction[]
Anodites are able to reproduce with humans by assuming a human body. If an Anodite reproduces with a human, they can use unknown methods to try and pass on what is referred to as "the spark" along to their children. This can potentially occur in offspring in later generations. For example, neither Frank nor Carl inherited the spark from Verdona, whereas Gwen and Sunny did.
Behavior[]
Anodites are very free-spirited, and most do not take life as seriously as most humans to the point that they disregard the morality of their actions and would rather satisfy their own personal pleasures.
While Anodites can theoretically absorb mana from other sentient life forms, most of them choose not to do so.
Anodites normally do not affiliate themselves with "just plain folks", which makes them slightly condescending to non-energy beings. However, this does not stop them from "help[ing] tons of people".
Powers and Abilities[]
- Mana Manipulation
1/66
Anodites can manipulate and control mana, the very substance of magic itself. An Anodite's powers are enhanced when they are given an excess of mana, such as in Legerdomain, or when they are in their true form.
Anodites can project mana from their hands, such as in the form of waves and beams.
An Anodite's mana beams can phase through the ground, as shown when Gwen used one to hit Octagon from afar.
Anodites can use their mana as a laser to break free of restraints or cut through the ground. They can also do so by firing mana from their eyes as a form of heat vision.
Anodites can create a mana explosion by firing a blast of mana at the ground. If given enough mana, they can send out a burst of it from their hands to achieve the same effect at a greater scale.
When sufficiently angered, an Anodite's body can emit mana in the form of electricity.
Anodites can create mana constructs, such as crushing weights, blades, tendrils, throwing discs, and whips as offensive attacks; shields, bubbles, and domes to protect themselves and others; bolases, arms and lassoes to grab or throw people or objects; chains to tether themselves to others; cuffs, tapes, shackles, walls, and cages to restrain others; and cushions, slides, stepping stones, ramps, and platforms as forms of transport or to allow a safe fall. The size, complexity, and strength of these constructs is limited only by the Anodite's experience in wielding such energy.
Anodites can tamper with the mana constructs of Anodites who are not as powerful as them, as shown when Verdona turned Sunny's shield into a bubble to trap her.
Anodites can unleash a burst of mana powerful enough to knock back a Tetramand.
Anodites can modify the mana they have already fired out with precision, as shown when Gwen fired a ball of mana at Dr. Animo, which split into a stream that destroyed his outline of the wall behind him but left him unharmed.
An Anodite's mana discs can act as boomerangs, as shown when Gwen fired one to hit Galapagus from behind.
An Anodite's mana domes can protect anyone inside them from being affected by Dagon's mind wave.
An Anodite's mana bubbles can envelop part of someone's body in addition to their entire body. Using this, they can knock opponents' heads together.
Since an Anodite's mana constructs are airtight, they can use them to suffocate someone or put out fires.
Anodites can create a floating orb of mana to use as a light source.
Anodites can enhance their punches by igniting their hands with mana.
Anodites can leave mana discs on the ground to form a trail.
By enveloping a person or object in mana, Anodites can move them around as a form of telekinesis.
Anodites can absorb mana from other living things or from someone else's mana attacks.
Anodites can fly at great speeds surpassing that of an Aerophibian and levitate.
Anodites can turn invisible.
Anodites can increase their size, as shown during Gwen's confrontation with Zombozo.
Anodites can astral project, as shown when Gwen used her astral form to enter the Ultimatrix to find Ben.
Anodites can encase someone in a forcefield to force them to their knees, as Gwen demonstrated on Humungousaur.
Anodites are technically biologically immortal, as they are able to manipulate their crafted body's age at will, and Verdona's comment on how she supposed in "human time" she hadn't seen her son in a while further hinted at her race's extended lifespan.
Anodites can create a body to inhabit, to conceal their true form, and shed it at will.
Anodites can communicate with others through the mana field, as displayed by Gwen when she called Verdona while struggling with fighting Sunny.
Anodites can detect someone's mana signature as a form of dowsing, allowing them to track them down by either following their energy trail; detecting the traces of mana that they left on their belongings; or being at one with the cosmic mana. Detecting someone's mana signature also allows them to discern what they are doing at the current moment. If the person being tracked is "losing touch with [them]self", it makes their mana signature weaker and harder to track, as was the case with Jennifer Nocturne. Dowsing can also be used to identify someone even if the person in question is deceased, as was the case with Victor Valadis.
Anodites can distinguish beings with physical similarities, such as Ben and Albedo, by reading their auras.
Anodites can discern multiple minds inhabiting one body, such as when Gwen was able to detect Ra'ad when he had fused with Ben as Ampfibian.
Anodites can notice the absence of someone's mana signature, as shown when Gwen detected billions of mana signatures had disappeared after almost everyone on Earth had been turned into Esoterica.
Anodites can also locate objects, as shown when Gwen scanned the universe (and Legerdomain) to search for Kevin's car.
Anodites can perceive people and events beyond what normal senses would allow, as seen when Gwen scanned a Highbreed ship to look for Max.
Anodites possess telepathy, allowing them to receive telepathic messages through their energy field. They can also display a 3D projection of the sender, as shown when Gwen displayed a projection of Helen when she sent her a telepathic SOS. Verdona was also able to read Max's mind and project her thoughts into his mind even from extreme distances.
Anodites can erase memories, as Gwen once demonstrated on her past self.
Anodites can scan memories, allowing them to obtain information even if it is buried deep in someone's subconscious, including the current location of a person the individual being scanned has encountered.
Anodites can heal others if they have been drained of mana.
Anodites can create portals and dimensional vortexes. One way they can do this is by retracing the energy path from a telepathic message they have received.
Anodites can teleport themselves and others.
By exploiting the incompatibility between mana and high-tech machines, Anodites can send out a wave of mana to intentionally disrupt a nearby piece of high-tech machinery.
Anodites can warp reality to an unknown extent. For example, Verdona undid the damage to Gwen's house caused by her battle against Ben, Gwen, and Kevin with the snap of her fingers, shifting Ben and Kevin back into their human forms in the process. Their reality warping abilities also allow them to create, repair, and dissipate objects, seen when Verdona fixed a broken glass at Gwen's house, created duct tape around Ben's mouth, and later made the duct tape disappear.
Anodites can read objects to figure out how they work, as Gwen once attempted on P'andor's containment suit.
Anodites can disrupt holograms with their mana.
Anodites can see through dimensional barriers, as shown when Gwen scanned Dagon's world to look for Esoterica.
Anodites can scan an area to discern if the individuals within it have been placed under a spell, by releasing mana grids.
Anodites can develop proficiency in magic.
Anodites are strong enough to throw a Tetramand over their shoulder.
Anodites are durable enough to withstand being thrown at a stone statue. Verdona also endured being pelted with large stone rocks without being visibly injured.
Anodites can survive in space.
Anodites can manipulate the hair-like stream of energy that radiates from their head, solidifying it to use as tendrils to grasp or ensnare objects.
Weaknesses[]
- Disrupted Mana
1/5
An Anodite's raw mana attacks are useless and ineffective against certain species such as Geochelone Aerios and Rock Monsters, though the latter was only an issue in In Charm's Way.
Anodites can struggle to determine someone's location in an area riddled with technology. They also cannot track Ectonurites, as they have no mana.
Most of an Anodite's powers can be neutralized by mana disruption grenades, power dampening headbands, bracelets used by a member of the Synthroid race (as demonstrated with Verdona), and cuffs from Inspector 13's Techadon factory.
Anodites can be drained of their energy to the point of either being rendered powerless or death, as nearly demonstrated with Verdona. This can be done by trapping them in runes at midnight and exposing them to moonlight, or placing them in a machine used by the Synthroid race.
Despite the great power at their command, it does require about 60 or 70 years before an Anodite can fully master their true powers. Using their full potential before achieving complete control may result in them being overwhelmed and losing their humanity, as was nearly the case with Gwen.

Trivia[]
- There is at least one alien species that is able to see through an Anodite's human guise.
- It seems that, when an Anodite retains their original body, they don't shed their skin when assuming their energy form, but instead shift into their Anodite self.
- If an Anodite were to use the Omnitrix/Ultimatrix, they would retain their mana-related powers.
- The Omnitrix does not contain Anodite DNA because Anodites themselves lack DNA. Rather, they have something analogous to genetic material.
- Therefore, any child an Anodite produces with another species will be related to that Anodite via parentage, but biologically the offspring will remain 100% pure to the species of the other parent.
- Furthermore, the effects of DNA-based devices such as the Forever Knights' DNA Scanner are ineffective against Anodites.
- Although only female Anodites have been seen, males "sort of" exist. This is evident by the fact Verdona always hoped that her sons and grandsons would have inherited her Anodite powers.
- Developing as an Anodite and mastering magic use "many of the same muscles" so to speak, like kicking a ball and swimming.
- Anodites were Derrick J. Wyatt's least favorite characters in the franchise because he viewed them as underpowered Pink Lanterns (Star Sapphires) and preferred "real" magic systems.
- Similar to how Kevin's origins were changed, Derrick found turning a key aspect of Ben 10 lore introduced in the Original Series into something derived from aliens a misstep that makes the overall universe smaller and less interesting.
- In short, Derrick disliked how Alien Force and Ultimate Alien made so that magic was powered by nebulous alien energy. He also felt that if the crew wanted to use Anodites, they should have left the established magic system from the Original Series alone.
