The Amazons were a group of women created in approximately 1200 BC by five Olympian goddesses in order to teach mankind the principles of equality, justice and harmony. 3000 in number, the Amazons built the city of Themyscira in ancient Greece. The Amazons are led by their queen, Hippolyta. However, due to the act of other gods, Themyscira was relocated to a remote island located somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean. Living in relative isolation, the Amazons were immortalized by their gods and allowed to pursue their physical and mental peaks. They refuse to interfere in events that take place in the outside world.
Man's World would eventually reach Themyscira in the form of Steve Trevor. A contest was held to see which Amazon would escort Trevor back home. Princess Diana won and later became the superhero known as Wonder Woman. A dialogue was reached between the outside world and the Amazons through her. Female refugees were taken in by the Amazons as one of their own, such as Harbinger. Other like Kara Zor-El were trained by them.
